Hamilton dropping it like that was pretty stupid given that by that point in the race/lap the likelihood of even getting a chance of passing was nigh on zero, although it's refreshing to see drivers going for it throughout the race rather than turning the engines down and such near the end. I don't blame Hamilton for going at Button. There was the possibility of forcing him into a mistake and taking 2nd. Granted it didn't exactly work out that way but I admire his competitiveness nonetheless, he wouldn't be nearly as exciting a driver if he just gave in.

yeh how amazing would it of been if button slipped up and lewis managed to pass him he of been a hero

What was stupid about it? He doesn't need to collect points to push for the title and I don't think he's bothered about the number of 3rd place trophies he has on his mantlepiece.

If he'd pulled it off and Rubens had blown out at the last corner he would have won. If Lewis doesn't win this year, it doesn't matter a great deal where he finishes, if at all.

difference being Lewis can risk a crazy move Jens could not. I think Jens would have backed off if Lewis tried a late break move into the chicane.

Even the craziest moves aren't really on the cards from 1.5-2s back though. If it was he'd surely have tried it earlier!

Maybe Hamilton decided to go into his so-called "Senna mode" for some inspiration and suddenly imagined he was coming up to lap Jean-Louis Schlesser.
