Lewis: I'm so hardcore
LEWIS HAMILTON apologised to his McLaren team after crashing out in Italy.
But he said: "I'm more a hardcore racer than people think. I'm just a racer. I'm sincerely sorry to my team. But they know I do absolutely everything to win races for them."
The world champion was pushing hard in the battle with fellow Brit Jenson Button for second at the Italian Grand Prix.
He hit a kerb at 170mph on Lesmo corner in Monza but walked away unhurt, despite slamming into the barriers.
Button finished second behind Brawn GP team-mate Rubens Barrichello.
Hamilton added: "Ninety-nine times out of 100 I'd have finished but every now and then, I'm bound to make small mistakes."
Hamilton, 24, knew he had to push to stand a chance of winning with his two-stop strategy, compared to Brawn's one-stop.
He said: "I needed to pull out a 20-second gap to the one-stoppers in the first stint, I was flat out.
"They came over the radio saying 'we need eight qualifying laps', so I gave eight. I was raised to never give up."
Hamilton also rubbished reports he has split with his Pussycat Dolls girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger.
The Swiss-based racer said: "That is bulls***."

Round of applause to Lewis for driving for himself.
