From F1 Live:

Nico Hulkenberg on Sunday secured the 2009 GP2 championship with one round to spare.

The young German, who is Williams' test driver and tipped for a race seat next season, finished the Monza sprint race third, enough to secure the necessary points advantage over his title rival Vitaly Petrov.

Hulkenberg's champion predecessor Giorgio Pantano aside, all previous GP2 title winners - Nico Rosberg, Lewis Hamilton and Timo Glock - went on to establish firm careers in formula one.

Good on him. Petrov had a real opportunity to pass Hulkenberg in the last few laps, where Hulkenberg made a little mistake, but Petrov made a bigger one and lost any chance of taking the fight to the final round. Now, hopefully, Hulkenberg will replace Nakajima... :)

Well done Hulk, Naka's seat is yours!

Crapajima's outta here!!

Wouldn't it be funny if he went to Toyota next year in place of Trulli? :hehe:

good lad

I know a lot of people rate him but TBH I have never been inspired by him. Pretty much like Villeneurve really.

How so?

Exactly! What are you on about? He is awesome!!! I rate him so highly! He is a superb driver and will one day be a WDC

I wouldn't say WDC just yet. So far out of all GP2 champions and F3000 champions (the series before GP2) Only one has ever became F1 champion and thats Hamilton.

And in case your wondering, those champions are, Alesi, Badoer, Panis, Zonta, Montoya, Heidfeld, Bourdais, Luzzi, Rosberg, Glock.

But no doubt, Hulkenburg is a super talent. Champion is pretty much everything he's done. He's more than quick. He's consistent, doesn't make mistakes, quick in quali as he is in the race, and a quick learner as well. It'll be fascinating to see him in F1 next year.
