Seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher has agreed a three-year contract extension with Ferrari.

Schumacher, who has remained involved with Ferrari as a consultant since retiring from Formula 1 at the end of the 2006 season, has been with the legendary manufacturer since joining it for the 1996 season as a driver.

"Yesterday, Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and me agreed to extend our co-operation for another three years," Schumacher told his website.

"I am very happy about this as I always liked to be part of the Ferrari family and as the name Ferrari also for me symbolises passion, quality and sport."

Schumacher added that he is going to concentrate further on the development of Ferrari's road cars after playing a major role in several of the marque's recent models.

"We agreed that I will give my input more and more into the GT department, the area of road cars," said Schumacher.

"I enjoyed participating in the development of the Ferrari California, the 430 Scuderia and the new 458 Italia which we will present next Tuesday at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

"I very much look forward to participating in future projects."

The real question is whether he will be driving a Ferrari in the 2010 Formula One season.

Yes it also lead's me to believe he still want's to compete/drive. Bob Varsha mentioned this morning while I was watching practice seesion #2 that MS had been on a bike recently yet dropped the subject immediately. I'm starting to get a funny feeling that MS will be driving next year if Ferrari decide to buyout Kimi or Massa is not fit. Or that he will race in 2011 after Kimi decide's not to renew his contract with the team.

I could be wrong on both account's but I think this is big new's. All the headlines and interview's have mentioned his disappointment at not being able to replace Massa. I want to believe that we will get one more season from him.

This is nothing to do with him returning to a race seat imo, i think it's all leading to Schumacher being a future team principal at Ferrari. :scratchchin:

I'm not surprised really. But hes concentrating on the road car aspect of the Ferrari. But then what i don't understand is why the announce that in the F1 sector? So really he is just taking part of what Jean Todt did? But as from what i have read he doesn't really act well as a Advisor?

but what i will say when he spoke to Chris about Fisi, after Fisi shot past Raikkonen on the times. So he must do somthing for them to want to fork out!

Care to offer something factual that make's your claim a viable arguement?
