So that bar code covering what used to say Marlboro, is in fact still an advertisement for Malboro?

Yeah it used to happen at the (french gp,correct me if i'm wrong please) many years ago marlboro on the McLaren,Ferrari and all other brands for that matter had to be covered.Ferrari carried on using it to get passed the advertisment ruling.

That and a few other GP where tobacco advertising was prohibited. But now it's banned everywhere I would have thought Malboro would have given up.

I presumed the bar code was still there because Ferrari didn't need another sponsor.

Nothing wrong with it, it's a bar code. It's not advertising Malboro. If you know what the bar code means then you've been influenced by the ad in the past and either smoked Malboro or not. You're not likely to change now and new viewers definitely won't be.

I just wish they'd take it off. They're ruining the look of the car. :(

The Marlboro situation is slightly different, cause their parent company actually pays for the rights to the advertising space on the Ferrari's, so they basically chose the other sponsors themselves. If you get me. I don't know if that's changing now though.

I'm not so sure, as the barcode is pretty synonymous with Marlboro. And, besides, one could argue that Ferrari should not bend the rules on this matter, given people's health is a moral issue. But, I suppose, it's not their fault at the end of the day. It's just emblematic of the double standards in Formula One by the authorities towards Ferrari. If McLaren were using questionable methods to advertise West cigarettes, no doubt Mosley and others would intervene.

Another sour McLaren fan. There's enough on this forum for a bag of skittles.

There's no sour grapes involved. I'm just stating the truth, with which you need to come to terms.

I disagree. Show me a pic of a bar code on Senna's Marlboro McLaren Honda that would symbolize Marlboro. Traditionally it's been the colors and the V-shape paint scheme that represent Marlboro. With the bar codes introduced by Ferrari, it's just the color scheme that's left. Well, e.g., Toyota has the same colors...

Good find
Still, the color and V-shaped paint scheme is what symbolizes Marlboro.
