Some teams - like Brawn or red bull for example - have centre caps on their wheels with designs on. These remain stationary while the wheels are moving. How is the wheel / tyre put together so that the logo remains upright for us all to see clearly and how does that not affect the performance on track?

Apologies if this has already been discussed or is a very stupid thing to ask about, but it has my boyfriend and I stumped!

They are attached to the wheel bolt and sit above the rim of the wheel

The bot remains stationary obviously

They help to cool the brakes as well as acting as a aero device. The wheels on a Formula 1 & all open wheel racing cars are the least aero efficient part of the car. The turbulence given off by the wheels disturbers the air flow over the car very much.

Man, I'm glad I found this thread. I've been really curious about those caps and couldn't figure it out.

I kind of wish they didn't have them, I miss those rare camera angles that show the glowing of the brakes.

Doe's anyone think that even with the cap's the rotor blowup's we have seen lately, albeit very few, have more to do with the brake bias setting?

I would guess that some brake failures have been because of the need to balance Kers over run and brake energy harvesting with hydrolic braking and brake balance.
