are mclaren going to be seeking further sponsorship, or will they simply add vodafone logos wherever there were santander ones. it also means the end of those hamilton adverts on the telly.

main sponsor? what of Marlboro?

Maybe having a barcode on the side of a car wasn't very good advertisement lol?
Maybe the length of the contract suggest the length of Alonso's deal with Ferrari?
Also really Martin Whitmarsh's remarks should carry a lot of weight due to the fact that I'm sure Santander told him why they were switching sponsorship to another team.

I think Phillip Morris are mainly a financer of Ferrari. They still have a contract with the team until 2011.

I never understood why Marlboro renewed their contract with Ferrari when they knew advertisements of cigarettes would be banned.

Because they can still sell cigarettes without displaying their name.

"at santander we take have a different approach, we believe in taking it slow, steady and finishing. However we're still investors but we choose to put our money in the sidelines.

At least this means no more having to worry every time you go into a Banco Santander Branch that you'll be confronted by a creepy Lewis Hamilton cardboard cutout.

I still have the nightmares :(

Alonso is off to Ferrari whether it is 2010 or 2011 we will see very very soon.

From Autosport.com's interview with Flavio Briatore:

Q. But if he is so spoiled, why did you take him on as his manager?

FB: Nelson's father asked me to take him. It was quite simple, and he had had a good season in GP2. Him and Hamilton were pretty much together.

If you look at his first year, he was second in Germany, and he was all right in his first year. But I know only in Brazil, that Fernando was ready for us because we were still negotiating between Ferrari, etc, etc. I had in mind to put Romain in the car, but I believed he was too young. This is no secret.

In 2008 Nelson was making 1.5 million dollars a year. I renewed the contract at one million. I put the clause in the contract that if he is not performing he would be out in Germany. If somebody had done me a favour I would have done something different.

I know how you feel, I dread going into abbey national now. Plus now that they are using the Santander systems they seem to have gone down hill.

Might have to cancel my vodafone contract just in case he turns up in there

Rules for getting a headline story

1) Arrange an interview with Mr Briatore
2) Move it to a quiet bar the day beforehand, allow him free drinks on your tab and arrive late
3) Stall the interview until he's a complete state and watch the truth pour out

As Stef Domenicali must have said when he read it, cheers Flav! :drink:

McLaren set to retain Santander

By Jonathan Noble Saturday, September 12th 2009, 17:59 GMT

McLaren is set to retain its sponsorship deal with Santander in 2010, AUTOSPORT has learned, despite the Spanish banking giant's high-profile new deal with Ferrari.

Santander announced in the build-up to the Italian Grand Prix that it was embarking on a five-year major sponsorship deal with Ferrari from next year - an agreement that could see the company tie-up with Fernando Alonso at some point.

While the Ferrari deal was in place for some time, discussions are believed to have continued with McLaren about extending its current deal too - especially because of the huge success the bank's profile has enjoyed through its association with Lewis Hamilton.

It is understood that a deal is now close to being confirmed, with an announcement expected in the next week – and perhaps even in the build-up to Sunday's Italian Grand Prix.

Santander chief Emilio Botin declined to comment about the McLaren situation when asked about the chances of a deal at the Ferrari announcement.

"Today we are here to speak about Ferrari," he said on Thursday. "From 2010, for five years, Santander will work together in red."

McLaren has also declined to comment about the state of negotiations with Santander.

Back at you SF.
