So basically i'm off to uni again and am trying to avoid taking a tv (and wanting to make the most of my HD monitor) and am just looking for a quick bit of advice.

Now, i know you need a tv card (think that's the technical name!), but i've seen both internal and USB variants, so which is better? I know a USB based one would save the hassle of installing it...

Also, i'd like to be able to record programs and access freeview channels/interactive services if that is possible. Value for money is also kind of a priority.

Can anyone recommend good equipment to me?

:):):)

media centre comes to mind. But only because it was brought up in work.

I work in an I.T. place, so its constant computer tech talk. One of the guys there has his laptop set up with media centre, so that it turns itself on, records TV shows etc. I'm no expert on the subject though. So my advice is to go research media centre on windows.

From Wiki
With the addition of TV tuner cards, Media Center can play back and record scheduled TV shows in either over-the-air High-definition TV, Digital Cable w/ CableCARD (1080i Premium HDTV) or standard antenna, cable, or satellite signal
