She has a point. the English language is going down the toilet since the internet age. With the current generation speaking and writing text talk then god help us English speakers trying to communicate in the future!

Very good point yet there are so called academic's here or college educated member's who are the worst offender's in spelling aswell as sentence/paragraph structure. We have all commited this heinous crime:yawn: on more than one occasion yet only the most anal retentive make it out as a life changing experience.

I should emphasise that my original post was, at least to some extent, tongue in cheek - it's purpose was two-fold: to remind people of the correct grammar whilst laughing at the fact that I care about it so much.

Lies! your a spelling nazi and you were cracking up with the massacre of the english language that is this forum. :P

I can't spell for toffee, physicists work with numbers and symbols not words  We should have a spell checker on the forum, another board I visit has one and it's a God send.

Google Chrome has one built in.

http://www.google.co.uk/chrome

Safari has one also, only problem is its spell checker is in US English.

Either way the member's of this forum are not your student's and should not be treated as such. A spell checker would not solve anything either as American's spell that rubbery round thing your car ride's upon as a tire not tyre, so who is really wrong if the meaning has gotten across.

Take it easy Tex, If you dont want to speak proper English then dont speak English. Its plain lazy not to want to do something and do it right! I dont fault her for bringing it up Tex its annoying seeing things done wrong when its the simple things being done wrong!

This subject is very trivial to me and I do not want to get into an unnecessary arguement with anyone about it.

Which begs the question that if it's so trivial to you, why did you bother to post on the thread at all?

Edit - actually it begs another question too - if you don't want to get into an unnecessary argument, why are you being so confrontational about it? It's all about alternative value systems - in my value system correct grammar is important, in yours it's not. We get it. No need to keep posting as if you think anyone who cares that things are written properly is a stuck-up pedant. We're different, and I embrace that, but that doesn't mean that I don't have the right to cringe at some of the worst grammatical errors.

I wholeheartedly agree

For me, grammar and spelling are important because otherwise I sometimes struggle to work out what people are posting about. It doesn't mean posts have to be perfect - I make typos and put way too much punctuation into a lot of things I write, but loads of misuses of words and dodgy grammar & spelling tends to distract me a bit...maybe that's just me though :hehe:
