He doesn't necessarily have to be involved. Renault wanted to stay in the sport, but the board were rumoured to be considering a pull-out. Similarly, the team wanted to retain Alonso, but up until that point the team's form was not up to scratch. He didn't have to be part of the plot, assuming there was one.

admit it, if he came back to Mclaren won the WDC and WCC for us you'd be saying he's a ledgend

took a dislike to him too after 2007 but hes just a top driver you can't knock him for that.
