Well its almost official that Santander will be buying into ferrari, the announcement being made soon but what else could it mean when a SPANISH company buys into FERRARI while there have been SOME speculation of a certain SPANISH driver joining Ferrari's ranks next year

Hmm...

Uh, where does it say that Santander buys into Ferrari??? :yikes:
It's not like Mercedes contemplating to BUY into Brawn GP - all Ferrari and Santander appear to have agreed on is a sponsorship deal. A slight difference, isn't it?

I think they mean buying into the Ferrari name, not buying into company itself, as that would just be silly :hehe:

Slight difference yes, but if you look into history, last time Santander signed a major sponsorship with a team Alonso joined the team. Now if/when they're signing a new deal with Ferrari, it looks quite natural to assume that Alonso might be involved again. I mean Santander as a Spanish Bank hardly has much interest in a Finn, don't know if they've got any business in Brazil.

Confirmed:

Santander confirms five-year Ferrari deal

Spanish banking giant Grupo Santander announced on Thursday it will be the Ferrari team's sponsor for the next five years.

The company, currently sponsoring McLaren, said it will be Ferrari's "main" sponsor from next season.

The deal was announced in a press conference at the Monza circuit on Thursday, when Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo was joined by Bank of Santander president Emilio Botin.

"We are very happy to have a new partner like Santander, with whom we are beginning a very important and long term collaboration," said di Montezemolo.

"We share common values, such as striving for excellence, a passion for competition, an international approach and, last but by no means least, the colour red. These values will make this a fruitful partnership, noteworthy around the world."

main sponsor? what of Marlboro?

Maybe having a barcode on the side of a car wasn't very good advertisement lol?
Maybe the length of the contract suggest the length of Alonso's deal with Ferrari?
Also really Martin Whitmarsh's remarks should carry a lot of weight due to the fact that I'm sure Santander told him why they were switching sponsorship to another team.
