If I were BMW, I'd be bringing back KERS for this race. Seeing how well they did last race, it would make perfect sense. That is, if they haven't already starting designing the car so it won't accommodate KERS. A KERS BMW could be the surprise package of the weekend.

I think they would have to go back to the old, more flawed car in order to use KERS. I don't think it would be as advantageous at that point. :-\

Yup, same for Renault. There's also the fact that it seemed hinder braking in those cars too, cause the system wasn't up to scratch itself.

I'm not looking forward to this one, Sam Michael has stated Williams will struggle because their car has not worked at low drag circuits this year, it's no wonder considering the FW31 has been amongst the slowest in the speed traps... along with the Toyotas, so maybe the Toyota engine is the least powerful in the field.

I am hoping this is Kazuki's last race, surely getting the Hulk in the car for Singapore to prepare him for 2010 is the best way forward for Williams, especially as soon as/if the Williams Renault deal is announced.

I wouldn't think the toyota engine is the least powerful. Simply because the Toyota preforms much better at low drag circuits. I mean, look at Spa.

Also, Nakajima won't be replaced that soon. We'd have heard rumours before something like that happened. Williams haven't exactly shown much dis-pleasure with Nakajima yet.

Renault brings back KERS for Monza

The Renault team has decided to bring back its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for this weekend's Italian Grand Prix.

Renault has not used KERS since the Spanish Grand Prix in May, having decided that it was not offering a sufficient advantage to justify its use.

However, with KERS-equipped cars having proved the benefits of the system in recent races, the French team has decided to re-introduce it at Monza.

The team's director of engineering Pat Symonds reckons KERS will be worth at least a quarter of a second per lap at the fast Italian tack.

"There are three aspects of KERS that need to be considered: laptime, the advantage it gives from the start, and the ability to assist overtaking," said Symonds.

"Firstly, the gain in lap time of running KERS in Monza is likely to be around a quarter of a second and it's worth even more in qualifying as you can do one release before you start a timed lap and another release during the timed lap.

"In terms of the advantage at the start, it's a long way from the grid to the first corner in Monza and KERS will give an advantage of well over fifteen metres compared with non-KERS cars.

"For assisting overtaking, you have to remember that Monza is a circuit where it's very difficult to overtake, but running KERS certainly won't disadvantage us in that respect. All these factors combine to make Monza a very favourable circuit for KERS."

Time will tell I suppose. It's going to be a very difficult weekend for Renault in many respects.

At a crossroads in crisis...

I don't know how competitive the Renault KERs system is. I mean it has been shelved for the best part of the season and although work has still continued on it, it has been scaled down significantly with the FOTA agreement and Renault's shift to preparing the 2010 car.

No doubt more will come out about the WMSC hearing this weekend and sure enough the team might also lose Fernando Alonso on top of that.

Well Alonso made that stunning start in Malaysia down the long straight, so it may give Renault a slight advantage seeing as their car has improved. No more than fighting for points though.

I predict both Williams being knocked out in Q1 with Naka dead last , then he gets sacked and Hulkenberg immediately takes his seat for the race.

I have a feeling Red Bull may struggle as well and Jenson will not take full advantage of the hot weather that is forecast for Monza this weekend... unless he decides to get a tan.

i have a feeling one of the brawns will win it, though after year you would be an idiot to write off vettel. i think it will be a really interesting race. not sure how the ferrari's or mclaren's will do mind.
