He comes back on to the track behind Heidfeld, so..

But since he took the turn much more open than the rest, he could achieve much more acceleration

:bs: he wasn't 3rd when rejoining, he was still slightly behind NH, hence in 4th. He didn't gain a place while 'short' or 'long' cutting, thus much ado about nothing.

Last year Lewis was penalised for using the extra speed he had from not having to follow behind Kimi around the second corner of the chicane to overtake Kimi later even though he had let him repass. The penalty was not for using the offtrack area or for the position he was in when he rejoined the track.

Why was Raikkonen not penalized for driving off the circuit at the first bend and gaining a place. If that would have been Hamilton he would have been penalized.

That was different and you know it! Stop stirring sh!t!
LH after GAINING a position through short cutting (there's ONE difference) did not do the repassing properly - that's what he was penalized for. KR didn't have to let anybody repass (and hence couldn't have made a mistake in that procedure) as he didn't pass anybody through the short/long cut :banghead:

Actually, it was for not giving back the advantage that he had gained. Raikkonen loses ground by going wide, then comes back on and takes positions, which is different.

imo using that run off gave Kimi quite an advantage by not having anyone in front as he accelerated down the hill, an advantage he kept all the way up to the top of the hill.

The pictures above just prove that its not fair. must be an extra in the ferrari international assistance package they brought, 'allowance into hidden parts of a race track'.

Raikkonen did gain an advantage, he built up extra speed on the run off area which took him passed N.Heidfeld into 3rd place.
As I said in the beginning if L.Hamilton had done the same maneuver there would have been a stewards inquiry.
