- 30 Aug 09, 15:31#147591An excellent race, in my view. I think there was a fair bit of action on the track and some good drives. It just goes to show that traditional tracks, such as Spa, will provide infinitely better racing than this new-age garbage.
First, Force India have to be congratulated. It was a decent performance all weekend and certainly not a fluke. In fact, they had the best overall package this weekend. Although it was a good result, I actually think they will be a bit disappointed, which came across in Fisichella's remarks in the press conference. At the end of the day, they were only beaten by the KERS button on the Ferrari on the way to Eau Rouge.
I said yesterday the title battle has become a farce, and there's nothing I saw today to change that view. I mean, once again, Red Bull have an open goal to do some serious damage to Brawn, but still f*** up big time. The whole lot of them are mugs.
BMW had another decent weekend. Where has all this pace come from? Sure, there have been some updates, but both Kubica and Heidfeld have stopped feeling sorry for themselves now that they could be out their jobs next season.
Toyota will never deliver in Formula One, even if their budget was increased tenfold. Their cars look alright in qualifying trim, but are mobile chicanes in the race. Long may it continue.
I'd like to have another look at Raikkonen's first few corners. He made a great start, but was either too ambitious or forced wide going into La Source, so decided just to use the run-off area, gaining a place or two, and a nice bit of momentum in the process for the run up to Eau Rouge. And, I saw at least two other cars further down the grid attempt the same scandalous move.
A disappointing weekend for McLaren. Had Hamilton not have been punted off the track, I'm pretty sure he'd have scored some solid points. On the other hand, Kovalainen did well enough to salvage something from the weekend. The battle for third place in the constructors' title is still on.
