Melbourne could lose its place at the very top of next year's Formula One calendar, it was rumoured in the Spa-Francorchamps paddock on Thursday.

It was suggested that due to the daylight saving changeover in the Australian city next March and the 'twilight' race start time, Bahrain could instead slot into an earlier date to kick off the 2010 championship.

Bernie Ecclestone showed team bosses an early version of the provisional calendar last Sunday at Valencia, when apparently the idea of the Australian Grand Prix being round two in 2010 instead of the season opener was mooted.

"Both scenarios are in discussion, but I haven't seen a finalised calendar," BMW team boss Mario Theissen told reporters in Belgium.

Melbourne has hosted the first race of the F1 season since 1996, except in 2006 when a clash with the Commonwealth Games was avoided by instead putting Bahrain to the top of the calendar.

Just F*** Off Bernie!

I'm not that bothered about this, but I expected some might be.

Bahrain is better as the opener... it gets it out of the way. Have China second and then we're quids in.

I dont agree, the first and last tracks of the season should be good tracks. So it looks like we will have a boring opener/finale next year.

NO!

Melbourne is underrated as a track. It provides great season opener after great season opener. This year was a great race, and so was the year before. Usually crazy, and always something interesting happening. Great way to open every season.

Bahrain isn't a bad track to watch, but nowhere near the spectacle of melbourne.

I like getting up at 3am to watch the first gp of the season! :(

Well you don't anyways. Not with Melbourne in the Twilight zone.

Ya, it was like 6am-7am this year... Forgot about that.

NOOOOOO!!! Not boring-Bahrain!!

To complete the nightmare, all Bernie needs to do is have that, China AND Catalunya-wn as the first three races of the year. Oh what a thrilling start to the 2010 season that would be...:bs:

Sorry, but I am bothered. Albert Park is a decent circuit and has a great atmosphere. Starting the season off with a bang is a must. Going to a bland and sterile place like Bahrain for the season opener is a dreadful prospect. If the Australian Grand Prix is to lose its place as the initial Grand Prix of the season, can it not go to somewhere interesting!
