The bigger issue is the effect that his release will have on the families of the victims. No-one even considered their feelings when the release papers were signed. I know that some of the families affected in Lockerbie have hailed his release as brave but how about the 189 Americans that died. Someone's son, daughter, father, mother, brother or sister who will never have the chance to say goodbye to their families because of al-Megrahi's part in the bombing of Pan-Am flight 103.

Another question; what if the doctors were wrong and he lives for another year or more? I don't believe he should have ever been released until evidence is provided against the conviction. If he is innocent then proper channels should have been followed, court of appeal to present the new evidence, not given a free pardon because he might die!

Well both points were raised in Holyrood yesterday. The justice secretary said that he had spoken to some of the American victims through Video conference.

Also a few doctors questioned the medical assessment.

Why didn't the British government overule

Because that would disrupt and discredit the devolution bill.

The Scottish government should only exist underneath the British government, alot like an Australian state government exists under the Australian Federal Government

Angelo Tsarouchas: I love Edinburgh, I love Scotland, I especially love what the English have done with this place!

You need the context of this skit he did.
A scottish cab driver asked him whether he was from New York as he looks like one of the Sopranos. So, Angelo goes: no, I'm from a small town called Canada.
The cab driver: ah, Canada, America, all the same sh!t!
So, in response to that he did that Edinburgh bit to the cab driver. :P:twisted:
Followed later by a heavy-handed swipe at the 'English' :hehe:

from what i gather the evidence against him was really weak and tbh not enough to take away all those years from him, im not exactly sure but i heard that someoen in a shop recognized his face, but had also seen his pic in a magazine or something?

if the evidence was solid or he had admitted it, yeah keep him in, but it was weak, i dunno, i dont know the full facts

But he was convicted and therefore he is guilty in the eyes of the law. Only an appeal should be allowed to overturn that decision in my opinion, not one minister. If that was part of the decision then why should his interpretation of the evidence supersede that of the jury's?

I'm strongly opposed to the release of murderers on compassionate grounds, particularly one who is responsible for the death of so many. Had he been imprisoned for a crime which hadn't taken, or put at risk, lives then I'd have no problem wih the release but this isn't one of those cases.

the way they have gone about it is all wrong, but im pretty sure hed win an appeal, everything in the law takes so damn long its silly [not that i undersatnt the complexities of it] yeah if he was guilty of something such as this i see no room for compassion, but i just feel the evidence has to be more clear cut,
the sad thing is, its probably political as well, but thts the world these days
