Only due to the fact the competition didn't have either a reliable or competitive enough car. Had Raikkonen and Schumacher had the same reliability as Alonso, he would never have been World Champion.

Sincerely, I believe that you do not understand much of formula one. Alonso is champion for own proper merits, has beaten all in the track

Actually I would agree with Marco. Alonso has been lucky, and to be completely blunt, his recent conduct both on and off track is not worthy of a double World Champion. Hes a mediocre driver in the best machinery, who hinders his own team and team-mate just to have his own way - it's pathetic.

If the bloke just learnt to chill out a bit, got on with his team and shared some of his own telemetry for the good of the cause, he'd be a better driver - but he's nowhere near as strong as such people as Michael Schumacher, Robert Kubica, Nick Heidfeld, Kimi Raikkonen or dare I say it, Lewis Hamilton.

Only Renault would want Alonso back next year, and god only knows why!

or sutil...

i agree forza, although, i'd have to be honest and say he's more that mediocre, but he's not as good as his record would have you believe.

Alonso next year will pilot a Ferrari and will put each one in his site. He is the best pilot and having his team in against he is on the verge of being a champion of the world

ALONSO....YOU ARE THE BEST...THE CHAMPION
"The best" are you mad!!! Hes a CHEATING LYING BIG KID that spits his dummy out the pram if he dosnt get his own way. Hes cost Maclaren the constructors!!!! Its not fair on all the hard working team who also were behind the big baby.He should be fined for cheating and the money given to all the team. Im sure they deserve the recognition.

There is no doubt that Alonso is pretty gifted. I don't think he is the fastest driver, however, I think is pretty clued-up. It was seen when be was at Minardi. However, what people are complaining about his who conduct which is entirely legitimate. Alonso has shown himself to be a poor champion, and to be honest, the year's he won the championships he was not the best driver. Alonso is a good driver, worthy to be champion, but he's no Senna.

I don't agree. Why Fisichella's results in last two years were nowhere close to FA's results?

While I do agree that ANY driver needs luck, they still need to be good behind the wheel to take advantage on having a good car.

Would MS be a champ if Ferrari failed to have best car on the track? It actually did take MS, what? 5 years in Ferrari before his first title. And you can't say that at that dark times Ferrari was small team with even smaller budget.

At the end of a day, almost any driver can be really good with gained experience over the years - but what put one among the best is not just his tehnique but his resolve, his killer instincts; he needs to be blood-thirsdy for every point, every victory. And ready to slain his opponents in every possible way.

Because of that same qualities that make champ material also produce SOB kind of guy. Let's face it, much as I don't like FA's human side right now... I never liked MS's as well. Nor did I find Prost, Senna... human qualities appealing.

The only champs that I find genuinely good guys in recent years were one-time only champs; guys like Hill or Villeneuve. Obviously they didn't have enough blood-lust to last longer (except MH who made it twice).

So let's face it - if you want real champion material, you'll get a bar steward wrapped in as well.
