You never heard me complaining about the Concorde agreement favours granted to Ferrari and Williams...

I would not imagine in the big scale of things that a 3rd car would cost that much more. Design is what costs the most, the only expense is building the chassis. a bit more room needed to transport it and then another engineer and a few mechanics when it gets there.

I am sure there could be a limit placed on how many mechanics a team could take with them

Whilst we're on the subject of three cars, doing away with the spare car was another of Mosley's numerous gimmicks.

A spare car is not needed nor has it been for many years or did I miss your point?

Whether or not spare cars are required (or fair) is beside the point. Mosley abolished them on the grounds of cost saving, but this has saved the teams very little money. Except for a spare chassis (of which a couple will be in the factory anyway), the teams bring with them enough spare parts to race several cars, and some of the bigger teams have facilities for mending and making minor parts.

It's kinda retarded to not have a spare car. The teams still bring an entire extra car to the races, just not assembled, but in bits and pieces. So, when a driver wrecks his car on Fri or Sat, the team will have to put in night shifts to make a new car. Savings? Probably close to zero

In my view, the only time I spare car could have been useful was in yesteryears, when teams didn't have to enter all of the Grand Prix or when there were very small outfits competing who could only afford one or two chassis. At the moment, even Formula One's most rudimentary teams are spending tens of millions, so could easily have a spare car sitting. In fact, one could argue not having a spare car is more expensive: For instance, say a driver has a really bad crash and has car has virtually disintegrated. Whereas in the past, he would simply hop into the spare car, nowadays teams would have spend enumerable man hours repairing the driver's old car with their spare parts. And, if the chassis was damaged in the crash, the team would not be able to enter one of their cars into the race, so would have flown out for basically nothing.

maybe limit the team to 3 chassis the weekend. that way if 1st/2nd driver bins it then 3rd driver gives up the car for the race. as in how the old t-car system worked

I think this is a tough one because it really is necessary to get more drivers into more competitive cars. This year is a perfect example with Jenson leading the way. Give him a car that is close to equal with the very best car and a good number of drivers will be competing for the championship. Would Jenson have won the world title driving in McLaren's third car last year? I don't know, but it would've made the season more interesting. I've never been a fan of the manufacturer's championship. I'd dump it for a year if I could get 4 or 5 teams to field 3 car teams and see how the driver's championship worked out.

I never liked the T-Car system, especially during the race; how many times did we see a driver binning their car in the first corner, the race being red flagged and the driver running back to the pits for the T-Car to take his place on the restarted grid. I believe the banning of the T-Car was a good idea in the fairness of racing!

I miss the running back to the pits bit though :P

I remember the epic run back to the pits at Monaco. Who where those drivers that kept their helmets on during the entire run in the hot sun?
