Bernie seems to be looking everywhere else but within this region to host F1 races, I've never heard him mention of it (please correct me if wrong). Well within the proximity of the European schedule, does anyone else find it odd that this hasn't been pushed?

Cheers

They used to race in Sweden, but it got canned quickly.
As horrible as it sounds the truth is that the Hungaroring exists to cater Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Hence why we get so many Finns and Poles.

Partly true: Poland is mostly b/c of RK - before him not a single Polish arse would be interested in F1 and hence show up in Hungary (close and familiar from when behind the iron curtain). Hungary and Scandinavia: it's mostly Finland since Finnish and Hungarian are two closely related languages that are quite different from the rest of the Indo-European language family.

The Anderstorp layout has hardly changed since it was used for F1 in the 1970s. It is relatively unusual in that it is based around a currently active airfield rather than a disused one. Keimola in Finland is the other international racing venue in Scandinavia of note but that is in no condition to be raced on.

Scandinavia should have a GP imo as it has consistently produced some of the world's fastest drivers:

Jo Bonnier
Stefan Johanson
Gunnar Nilson
Ronnie Peterson
Jan Magnusssen
Mika Hakkinen
Leo Kinnunen
JJ Lehto
Kimi Raikkonen
Heikki Kovalainen
Keke Rosberg
Mika Salo
Markku Alen
Toni Vilander
Sig Haugdahl
Tom Kristensen
Kenny Brack
Mattias Ekstrom
Rickard Rydell

and that's not including rally drivers! (except Markku Alen who was a rally driver as well as a racing driver)

F1 used to be hosted in Sweden, until the deaths of Ronnie Peterson and Gunnar Nilson (the latter from cancer) in the same year angered the Swedes and they wanted nothing more to do with it. It's a shame, especially as its last race was famous for the one and only outing of the Brabham fan-cars.
