I thought he just had personal sponsors (ie Repsol) rather than paying outright for the drive? Huge difference...

Kovalainen to Williams? No thank you, I think Sir Frank would rather fight to keep Rosberg than accept a swap with the Finn that doesn't exactly fly.

That would be possible if Nico wanted to stay; otherwise... not much of a fight

The FW31 is getting better all the time and is now quicker than the Brawn. I think Nico's best chance for a podium would be Spa (providing it stays dry), hopefully McLaren's aero-deficiencies will be shown up again, Brawn will keep sliding back (and if it's not warm they'll struggle to warm up the tyres again), Ferrari's KERS will peg them back a bit and Toyota will be still stuck in the midfield.

If Nico can even sneak a win or two like Alonso did last year, it would be perfect timing.

You're right. The FW is actually looking good... the thing is to me, it seems that it 'just missed' something, so it must be pretty frustrating. Whereas, drivers look at Mclaren and Ferrari and where they were at the start of the season, and they have to wish to be in those teams (not to mention Red Bull and Brawn).

One thing that could really put the Williams up front for a win or so, would be that KERS... i hope they nail it. I've been looking forward to the mechanical KERS since the beggining of the season!

Nico has been pretty awesome this season. Williams might not have the budget to sustain this development into 2010 and this is what worries me.

Yeah, Williams missed a lot of opportunities at the start of the season due to a combintion of team c0ck-ups (Nico chomping on the tyres at Melbourne, pit stop and strategy blunders, Nico's "visor problems" at wet races, Nakajima crashing) very back luck (Malaysia especially, Bernie's fault) and some of the early races where the big spenders could affor to make and ship-out tonnes of new bits to the cars causing Williams to drop back until the European season started.

With costs hopefully coming down now, budget shouldn't be so much of a problem for Williams. Sir Frank is a shrewd business-man and is always able to find money from somewhere.

Hopefully if Nico does win races this year it'll be at the point he still hasn't decided who to drive for in 2010 yet, which then afterwards should leave him with just one option.

If Nico goes to McLaren and gets the Heikki treatment it will serve him right, at McLaren you will never get equal status whilst Captain Lewis the Invincible is with them.
