What are the top speeds of LMP1 cars in comparison to Formula One?

I think if you start covering the single seater cars, the lines between the two types of motorsport begin to blurr. Every single seater series would probably have to implement these changes too. I don't know how cost effective it would be for single make series to do this, considering the financial problems that the world is facing.

They're not far off, Prototypes can easily do over 200mph! That said (and i may be wrong here), i think the LMP regulations are supposed to be changing soon to make all the cars closed-top.

No you are right, the ACO have ruled that. I think it is better - closed is how a sportscar should look, do you agree?

Hmm, i don't mind them in some cases really cause the Audis and Acuras are still incredibly stunning cars, and they are after all prototypes, but i don't really like topless road cars like the Tramontana (the car Stephen posted above) and the Caparo. Well, except for the Ariel Atom!

I think I may be being too nostalgic about the Jags and Porches

Actually, it is step away from the traditional rules of Le Mans which mandated that cars should be open. I do prefer closed cars though, i think it's a good move. I would love Le Mans to have a bit more road relevance. I don't necessarily want homologation rules but i think it would be great if they made a rule that meant all entrants had to be road legal

Group C cars ftw. 8-)

Group C cars... :cloud9:

Back in the late 80's the Group C cars managed to do over 400kph at Le Mans down the Mulsanne straight when there were less chicanes in it.

What about cornering speeds?
Bugatti Veyron fater than F1 top speed, but F1 dicks on it on corners

In the mid 1980s and in fact from 1969 until 1972, sportcars were faster round a circuit than the contemporary F1 cars. The group C cars from the 1980s employed closed bodywork with low drag co-efficient, brake technology that was illegal in F1, ground effect and turbocharged engines that could be wound up to 900 bhp in qualifying trim. Nowadays, they are a bit tamer compared with modern F1 cars but still far superior lap time performance to anything other than a large-engined single seater.

On the Veyron vs and F1 car thing, the F1 car would have licked in pretty much every department. F1 cars in ultra low downforce spec can do 250+ mph and car out accelerate the Veyron to those speeds
