he mayor of Montreal on Tuesday clarified that no deal to reinstate the Canadian Grand Prix in 2010 has been completed.

F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone was earlier quoted by the Swiss magazine Motorsport Aktuell as saying "I promise we will be in Montreal in 2010."

However Mayor Gerald Tremblay told French language radio RDS that negotiations are still ongoing, and that Ecclestone has not modified his previous unacceptable offer.

Ecclestone also said on Tuesday that while an F1 return to Indianapolis is not on the cards, his sport could host a United States Grand Prix somewhere else "the year after (2011)."

This could set a dangerous precedent for Ecclestone and CVC; if they do reduce hosting fees for Montreal (as it seems that Montreal isn't willing to pay top $) then many other important circuits will expect the same treatment; for example Germany, Belgium, Monza, Great Britain, some of the biggest markets for F1. F1 hosting fees need to be reduced because it limits the amount of people that can afford to attend GPs, ticket prices are extortionate given the current downturn, people simply don't have as much disposable income or simply want to save money just in case of job losses etc.

I am very confused once again !

i'll see it when i believe it. all i know having been to every gp-except 2 at c.gilles villeneuve, is my right to see a f1 race live after 44 years straight is looking dim this year. this sport can not go on being run this way. the promotors are charged crazy money,to cover the cvc dept. the promotors have to charge crazy money to stall/booth rentals at the track for indept. sellers [hats "t shirt" etc.] and artists. they have all gone. not a one at montreal the last few years. a real shame. burt.

Honestly as an American, I would prefer Montreal to Indianapolis, its simply a better track for F1. It would be nice to see them make updates to the track however, even just to resurface it would be great.

I just meant that I am tired of Bernie constantly waking up on the wrong side of the bed each morning. He sit's up and think's to himself 'How much money can I squeeze from this venue after I have extricated my forefinger, atleast to the second knuckle, from their bum?'.

Ahhh I'm spent I now need a smoke and a nappy, chow.

natedawg, indy has/had a great thing going for it. cheap prices,fan awareness,autograph sessions. i was at all of the races held there. but the best was camping right across the street from the track. made alot of new/great friends there,we all keep in touch. all the track workers made you feel at home/welcome. alot to be said about indy. a real shame. burt.
