What? You'll have won the Ashes? So what: the Aussies would still be dominant in the series and hold all of the records, and 2009 is the first year since 1989 England have looked like beating Australia fair and square. You English just don't get it.

Also the ashes isn't an international tournment. It would be different if England were playing other nations.

Well its a test series, every summer (northern and southern hemispheres) the Cricketing nations play each other in test series, ODI and now Twenty20. the Ashes is just between Australia and England but then Australia will also play NZ SA India etc

The English record from 1989 onwards is shameful, I can't deny that.

I just find it quite entertaining that so many nations feel the need to be better than us when, for the most part, England couldn't give two stuffs about anyone else (with the exception of Germany in the footie and the Aussies in the Cricket).

Yes but... if Australia beat England in the Ashes will they celebrate it as if they have won the "world championship"?

No, and I wish we wouldn't but we'd been dreadful for a long time...

Exactly I can see some of the headlines already. "England the best in the world." "Flintoff the greatest all-rounder ever?"

No because they usually win, but we're immensely crap at cricket so we take what we can get! :hehe:

Lol, that's a whole other story. You know I despise the British press' reaction to sporting achievements

there is no world championship in Test Cricket. the ashes is just a name given to the urn (for obvious reason) that England and Australia play for, its no different to say Scotland Vs England in Soccer, im sure there is a cup that is rewarded whenever they meet?

Not in football. Sadly England and Scotland don't really meet these days.
When they do in Rugby it is part of the Six nations. A cup is given then, but there are cups for playing Ireland and Wales, so it doesn't matter as much.
I realise there isn't a world cup of test cricket, but if England win... the way the press go on as do a select number of fans... you'd think the ashes there was one.

well its probably THE oldest rivalry in Cricket so its a pretty historic match up, and a big deal in the world of Cricket i mean its not like Australia vs Bangladesh now that is awesome....

I think the major problem is that we don't get a chance to play England as much now at anything... :hehe:

The six nations is always great though. I tend to support anyone but the French :hehe:

We've not had a great Rugby Union squad for a number of years. The current crop are individually very talented, but they have underachieved. Much like England's 2006 Footballing world cup team (but on a smaller scale of course).
