Ok here goes.

I wholeheartedly apologise to any Cricket fan or English man/woman or android, which may have been offended by my negative views on cricket.

Up here in Scotland, Cricket is actually the second most watched sport behind football. Quite unbelieveable given the large Rugby following in the Scottish Borders.

However it isn't surprising, last year I lived near Scotland's national cricket venue and they did get some decent sized crowds.

So if anyone was offended, again I am sorry. As a peacemeal... I would like to offer a Jaffacake, maybe a jammy dodger or two.

P.S. Australia will still win The Ashes.

No need to apologise, we can't all have great taste :P

...and I'll ignore the small print :nono:

Honest answer here please. If Scotland (by some freak of nature) actually got to the final of some big sporting event, would you support them?

If they were playing anyone but England? Absolutely  I support all the home nations.

Is that your final answer?

Then why is it that us Scots rarely support anybody English? I mean I love the Northern Irish and the Welsh and I actually do think the English as people are great, but in sporting terms I can't bring myself to support your country.

I mean... when we sing our Scottish national anthem, some add their own lyrics to the ends of certain lines...

I'm as British as they come, unlike my friends I rose for the national anthem at Silverstone :hehe:

 Forest supporters will tell you different though. :hehe: McEveley and Teale also seem to make the Scotland squad sometimes, Kenny Miller played for us recently too.

Yes Teale especially has been getting a few caps recently. Miller, current plays with us at Ibrox, but he doesn't half miss chances!

It's a bit of friendly rivalry I suppose. Everyone hates the English when it comes to sport.

But do you ever sit down and think about why that is?

I always assumed it had historical beginnings. England were quite fond of conquering nations at one point, I doubt they found that very endearing.

Well history is a major part, but it is also the present day too.
I'm interested actually (and i'm sorry that this is deviating away from cricket, but there is a break until the next test isn't there?) to understand English perceptions of the Scots.

Recently they have been quite damning. We are painted as getting alot of social benefits given to us because of the Parliament. However more money is spent as per head on people living in both London and Northern Ireland, so that argument is sometimes unjustified.

I think Scotland and England, are too alike to get on really, yet they need each other more than they sometimes realise. The majority of Scots were the workhorse and the brainpower behind the British Empire, and Scots made their fortune from the Union. However this wasn't helped by a growing Scotto-phobia in the 1740-60s.

Bringing it back to the present day, I do believe that both countries have different cultures. Scotland is generally more leftist. The majority of employment is in the public, not private sector and alot of our areas are poor or in the wilderness. We were hurt badly, especially in the 80s

Anybody care to answer. As many will know we aren't a bunch of rebels or anything, as much as the English aren't arrogant. I blame the media for alot of the rivalry.
