Hi everyone, new to the forum. I have always loved Formula 1racing but never really get to watch it much. I also dont realy know much about it. I just love the look of the cars, teh speed the reach and that sweet sweet music to my ears as they quickly shift around a tight corner and down a long straight. SO i just have a few questions if you dont mind me asking...

1) Ferrair is my favorite, idk why, just is. Does Michael Shumacher still race? Just watched a race today in Hungary and there was only one Ferrari and it wasnt him.

2) Specs on cars? Where can i get them? Like weight, height and length. Hospower, Torque, idle speeds, what rpm is teh power band?

3) Rules? Like a car can and cant have or what its limits for the above specs would be? And just general rules all together.

4) Durring the race the commentators was talking about a device that only Ferrari and another car had that was heavier but gave them 80more bhp the the other cars? WHat is it and why dont the all have it?

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it.

1) Schumacher's not racing in F1 anymore. The reason we only had one Ferrari driver is because Felipe Massa was hit by a bit of debris during qualifying.

2) and 3) I'll leave to the more technically minded

4) The technology McLaren and Ferrari are using is KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regenerati ... ry_Systems

Each team has decided whether to use it or not this season, only Ferrari and McLaren have chosen to use it consistently.

Ok yeah teh KERS. EVen after reading that i dont understand exactly what it does. Just a heavier flywheel to increase center of gravity? I thought you would want the center of gravity lower so the car is more stable?

This will help you understand KERS more: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=6418&hilit=kers

Oh ok. I get it now thanks. I just read all about these things in general form wikipedia. They state that they are 2.4L V8's that put out 700-780hp??? Thats a tiny V8. and to put out that kind of power? I used to have an 03 Cobra which was a 4.6L SC V8 that put out 390 underated hp stock. Even my old '66 Fastback cant make that kind of power. And these Formula motors are suppose to be N/A? Ho are they making that kind of power? Thats insane!

This is really not the place to get into a technical discussion as it is only for new member's to introduce themselves. Look into your 'search' option and you will find a great deal of info  .
