F1is crying out for drivers against the typecast, drivers that'll speak out and say what they like, so so what if he is crap, he will be a laugh and a good man to have back. Its not as if he is German and we all hate him

You're probably right about that but I thinks its absolute foolishness to try and sign US drivers for the team. I can see the marketing value in doing so but the overriding factor is that nobody will be interested in the team if they're not competitive no matter who's driving the car. maybe a combination of a known veteran and an American rookie would be OK but lets face it the only thing the rest of the F1 teams care about is how fast a guy is not what country he's from.

There once was a time when F1 drivers were at their peak during their 30's, and some still raced on well into their 40's. Mansell was 41 when he won his last Grand Prix, and Jacques Laffite was 42 when he was still getting podiums and big points for Ligier before he broke his legs at the 1986 British GP.

I should imagine that the new US team will be about as successful as previous efforts....ie...not a lot! US drivers chosen will therefore admirably match the car.

The Beeb are hinting at Alex Wurz for the USF1 seat rather than Villeneuve...

Jacques Villeneuve - F1 world champion in 1997 - has voiced his interest in securing a drive for 2010 but former Williams team boss Windsor believes his team might not match Villeneuve's expectations.

"Jacques is a former world champion and he comes in with that persona and that largesse and it could be that for a team that needs to grow at it's own organic rate Jacques would come in with his own rate of expectation and they might not match," he said.

"The rate at which you learn and grow really affects the way that team will perform over the next decade.

"If you look at BAR-Supertec, as they were when they started (in 1999), in the days of Jacques Villeneuve, you could argue that the team was running before they could walk.

"And I think that's one of the reasons they didn't go on to achieve the success that they maybe should have with their resources.

"We want to walk then canter and then sprint and we want to do all those things in the right order.

"Anybody who has got a lot of F1 mileage who is still hungry and is a good guy is the sort of person we would be looking at for one of our two cars."

Windsor believes his team might not match Villeneuve's expectations.

I think Villeneuve wouldnt match the expectations of the team he would go in. He is too old, and he didnt drive a F1 car for a long time.
