rod dennis has got to appeal against this bull. They punish the team but realise punishing the drivers will screw up the sport so they get no penalty.

I do and I don't agree with the penalty.
If McLaren are guilty, then surely the drivers should also be deducted points because they were running an illegal car - OK so it isn't their fault, however if they had been running a so-called 'clean' car, maybe they wouldnt have notched up as many points as they have?

I wonder what effect this will have on McLaren's sponsors (if any)

They got off easy, really easy. Their penalty is for only 2007, they can still come back in 2008 & 2009. No doubt RD, McLaren, and team principles can cough up the money and still have plenty more. Finally, this bullpoo is over and we can concentrate on the rest of the season and next year.

I think it's a fair punishment. McLaren have been punished which is what Ferrari wanted to see and quite rightly so, but yet at the same time, the drivers have been let off because it was not entirely their fault. A tough decision to make but probably the best one to make. Now let's hope all those politics do end up in Brundell's barrell and rolled down a hill.

I predicted $50m and they upped it to double - wow!
I agree with Selcouth Feline about the drivers not getting docked points as well all the while their illegal car made it possible to get all these points. But here BE's business power and greed came to play in the sentence. Plus the $100m will make up for loss of business for F1 due to this scandal.
At any rate, LH's or FA's title this year will be tainted and they won't be able to be proud of it because it will be based on spies, lies, and videotapes

I agree - won't be hard for them to cough up that money, even if they lose some sponsors - Daimler Benz is frigging huge and they pay that kind of money out of their postage kitty.

The logic defies this conclusion. The drivers' points were 'achieved' running in a car that took advantage of illegal information. Even if they didn't know ANYTHING (which is to be doubted judging on rumors of email exchanges, etc. - so they KNEW), they would have been cheating nonetheless. But again, I understand this decision for monetary/business and sporting reasons - the FIA had to make a point to prevent future transgressions, but they also didn't want to throw the baby out with the bath water and damage F1 beyond repair.
I like the extra scrutiny McLaren will have to go through for next year's car - again, something I predicted earlier.

Totally disagree with you Darwin. At the moment we have no knowledge that Mac cars benefited from any inside design knowledge.
I can't help but feel that F have benefited from considerable political and financial leverage that has helped result in this judgement. When they win the constuctors...it will be they that have a hollow victory.
Also the final penalty is inequitable...if the team is to be penalised so should the drivers....but guess what..they havn't, as that would be considerably more damaging to the sport and FIA as the USA fiasco.
In in all it's been a crock of *****. F have got the result (and championship) they wanted at whatever cost.
I sorely hope FA and LH whip the F's in the final races.
