My question is do you think that Friday practice is significant? Does it EVER give a true reflection on pace, car development etc... Does this Friday at Hungary state that YES the McLearen update has actually worked??? Why woul there be such a big me between Button and Barichello in Friday practice?

of course its significant for the teams to collect data for the race. Whether the fans want to get excited prematurely over the times or not is up to them. Race day is what counts in the end and practice sessions help get the results on that day.

Even though F1 drivers among the best in the world, they still need to get used to a new track,They can't be expected to go flat out and be bang on if you put them straight to racing after a 2 weeks break. Most will end up crashing at the 1st corner i would suspect.

To answer the question in the thread title: Yes.

Drivers and teams use these sessions to learn valuable lessons about the track and use the 3 hours to dials themselves in - eg. tyres etc.

New for year of course is the ability to use the sessions to test new parts on the cars, some parts that might not even be on the car come Saturday.

I always find you don't get a true indication of pace until Practice 3 on Saturday Morning.

Yeah. Unless it's a Rosberg-Nakajima one-two :hehe:

Ok my theory will be totally dispelled if Piquet tops tomorrow's session :P

It wasn't an easy day because I had to learn about the new parts that I have on my car this weekend, as well as working on the set-up. As Fernando already had these updates in Germany.

Such rubbish. The updates should make you faster not slower!

It is not really significant but I still watch it if I have the time. I don't think we can discount it too much. It would be a certainty that Mclaren would want to see how fast the car can go with near qualifying fuel so the fact that there are back at the top of the testing sheets is good sign for them

Well today I'll say they are very important.....cos lewis is top :D (Taking cover now!!!)

It's a little bit tricky with Friday practices' results. Those times depends on various facts. And, when you see final result of the session, there are just the fastest laps. Someone could have been testing or doing long runs or just testing some new parts, etc. I never get too excited about Friday times. But, no one can deny that it's obvious, according to the both practice sessions, progress that McLaren made. They will be very dangerous in the qualifying tomorrow.
