Has any Indycar/IRL/CART driver transferred to F1 and had any sucess? I certainly can't think of a driver that has in the past 16 years I have followed F1!

I'd say Montoya was pretty successful. Alright, he didn't take a championship, but he certainly had the potential. It's a shame he didn't fulfil it.

At the same time I suppose he had his F3000 experience?

True, I guess. But then, Bourdais had experience of European single-seat racing and he didn't make the same kind of impact, so I'm not entirely sure it counts for too much.

I forgot all about JPM; shame on me!!!... although I thought he was a pompous arse, I tend to remember him for spins or wins more than anything!

Bottom line is that if Danica Patrick doesn't want to race in F1 then that's upto her; wanting to be near friends and family isn't unreasonable; I certainly wouldn't want to be away from my family for months on end, I turned down live tour as sound tech because I don't want to be away from my family so I understand her comments!

Bourdais was in the US for a longer period? Became used to their way of working, their way of living?

There could be a number of reasons. Certainly if Bruno Junqueira attempted to get into F1 I wouldn't expect him to do well, despite being a previous F3000 champ.

She's barely good enough for Mickey Mouse racing series in the US, so she's hardly good enough for Formula One. If Patrick was honest with herself, she'd know that, too.

She is currently in 5th in a field of 37, on a struggling team, ahead of all 3 of her team mates, explain to me how that makes her "barely good enough". I still don't believe that she is F1 talent, but she has proven to be better than two of the other very popular driver picks, Graham Rahal and team mate Marco Andretti. Hildebrand seems very average in A1GP, the best driver I can think of that still remains is the F1 tested Scott Speed. His run with Torro Rosso doesn't really mean much, Torro Rosso has a history of ruining the reputations of world class drivers with their slow cars and horrid team.

With the notable exception of SV

Well I've said it before, it's not like it's the elite field of motorsport drivers is it?

No, but to say She's barely good enough for it is untrue.

She's good enough for IRL, not Formula One though.

:P This isn't the return of the Spice Girls girl power and all that bishbosh. She shouldn't be let in F1 purely because of her umpalumpa or marketing abilities.

Bishbosh - oooh, that's a new word for me

I love Danica :(:banghead:

I love horses, best of all the animals, I love horses they're my friends...

Horses cant drive racing cars.

And neither can Danica

Just kidding, she seems a reasonably good driver. She'll hopefully do alright in Nascar :P

...and show man :boobies: guy what a real pair can do :P
*grabs :brolly: waiting with bated breath for racechick's reply*

Have you read the last few pages of the "who will win the world championship this year" thread DD? :hehe:

The only reason I can't see an F1 driver being female in the current F1 championship is purely due to physical ability to do the current race distances. Other than that I see no reason why not.

Why would they be physically limited in respect of endurance??

I reckon after the hour mark in a race a woman would really start to struggle with the g forces physically and regardless of her skills her laptimes would fade away.

Its the same in any sport if you compare men & woman, the distances are usually shorter for the woman and if they are not the times in which they both complete the distances (marathons) are larger.

Don't get me wrong I have nothing against having females in F1 racing but I just can't see them maintaining the pace over a full race distance.

Well, women frequently beat men with one horsepower (show jumping, dressage), so they may very well beat them with 800+ :P

Not yet - working my way through this one right now...

As for women lasting race distances - OK, so she might have to work harder than the guys, but there's no reason as to why she wouldn't be able to last the race. I think the major reason that women are at a minimum in racing is not because we don't have the ability, but that it's simply a man-dominated world, and that on it's own creates barriers to women entering the sport.

It wasn't that I don't think woman can last the race distance, as in they will have to stop near the end of the race. I'm more just questioning due to what most current F1 drivers say about staying in tip top physical condition, can a woman maintain the pace over a race distance.

Im going to stop posting on this topic now because I feel that I'm going to dig myself into a hole in the ground that I can't get back out of again.

:yes: You're already in the hole!!

Yup, in deep doodoo
