So who would be the BEST driver to go at it w/ Lewis at Mclaren??

I think... Timo Glock, Nico Rosberg or Nick Heidfeld. But not because they are german (although Nick could be a better assett to one of the newer teams).
Mclaren should have let De la Rosa drive though.

Heidfeld?

Don't make me laugh. He is terrible, i just plain do not like him. He is just one of those drivers like Fisi who is just a name? Not to brag about, but can be classed as a little average with some slight signs of good race pace. Nico is the better of the 2. I am not easily impressed but Nico does it for me ;)

Totally talented and i can see him being the man to beat in the right set with the right car and the right man to egg him on.

Heidfeld is a bit of a Steady Eddie. McLaren can do better.

Back in the day though when they choose Raikkonen I remember being quite miffed.
Now though I'd agree.

Vettel better ;)

He definitely is. I've probably said before, but he would be my first pick for McLaren. That's not to say, however, I'd be disappointed to see, say, Rosberg at the team.

While that may be true I don't think Mclaren will sign a driver that will challenge for the championship. They don;t want a repeat of the Hamilton/Alonso season. I think if they change their driver it will be somebody like Heidfeld because they'll want a driver that can support Hamilton to the championship.
