Ferrari might eventually contract Vettel

Stefano Domenicali has refused to rule out the possibility that Sebastian Vettel will one day reside in a Ferrari cockpit.

The widespread rumour of the moment is that Fernando Alonso is the closest outsider to a seat with the famous Italian team.

But when asked about 22-year-old Vettel, a two-time winner in 2009 for Red Bull Racing, Ferrari's team principal answered: "Never say never."

"I like him very much; his character is very positive and independent," Ferrari's team principal said of the German youngster.

"For his age he is far ahead both technically and mentally," Domenicali told Germany's Auto Bild.

The Italian acknowledged that Michael Schumacher, Ferrari's most successful driver in history and now an advisor to the Maranello team, holds his compatriot in high regard.

"He has no doubts about how good Sebastian is," Domenicali said.

On another subject, Ferrari team principal Domenicali was cautious when asked about his predecessor Jean Todt's candidacy as the FIA's next President.

"Jean was my boss and I know that he was very good when it came to matters about Formula One. More I cannot say," he answered.

Vettel also has Schuey's backing and if you do alittle research you will find that I have alway's said it will be Vettel and not Alonso. Hell Vettel has had MS on 'speed dial' for the last two year's for mentoring.

If Vettel got a Ferrari seat instead of Alonso I would laugh so hard! Imagine Alonso's reaction :P

Can't wait to see that...

Hamilton (Mclaren) vs. Vettel (Ferrari)

Dream battle

Indeed, if Seb gets in to Ferrari before Nano, it'd be very shocking to Nano.
But I don't mind at all..

I think that half the drivers on the grid has been linked with Ferrari over the years... I'll believe it when I see it! Ferrari are looking for that Schumacher-esque figure to take them back to the glory days; that person may well be Vettel as I believe that in a few years the German will be much better than Alonso IMHO.

Vettel + Alonso.
That would be the best lineup for Ferrari. MS would be by Vettel's side while Alonso goes at it by himself

If Ferrari go after Vettel, they stand a good chance of getting him (provided the car is fast enough or could be before too long), but other teams will be after him as well.

They never rule out hiring anyone, though.

And somehow that's a good thing for Vettel? Its not like the Scuderia are really front-runners anymore. they're much more like the Ferrari of the 90's than the Ferrari of the Shumacher era. Just my observation :D

I dunno I rekn it will be Alonso who is next online at Ferrari! Besides Redbull won't want him to go any season soon! And why would he even want to leave the team given the RB5's performance!

Plus SV's personality is a great match for Red Bull's a bit different way of doing things.
