He's been around the world repairing the damage the George W did to the US international relations.
He's done lots to help the American economy to recover with stimulus grants and so on.
He's made positive steps to bring America in line with the rest of the world on emissions and global warming issues (which is something no other president has attempted).

That's all I can think of right now, I know there are more...

And it doesn't annoy me that you ask, remember I'm not an American but I believe that Obama is the best thing to happen to America for a long time!

If Vatanen can have the same effect on F1; bring peace and reduce the political bullsh*t, F1 will be a much happier place!

Cool, nice to know.
But America are still probs miles of on emissions levels, and no other leader tried doing that because the emissions were never a problem.

America has a lot of work to do to get on par with Europe but it's a step in the right direction, emissions have been a problem for some time, just that successive presidents have buried their heads in the sand pretending global warming doesn't exist! People are slowly changing, getting smaller more economical cars, probably not because of being worried about emissions but because of rising fuel prices; it's about $2.65 per gallon here in Kansas at the moment and that is considered expensive, I like to see them pay European prices, that'll put US prices in perspective. It really is amusing seeing people driving around in tiny little Japanese imports in a world of huge trucks.

Announcing his campaign, Todt, who has been involved in motor sport since 1966 and led Ferrari to five straight championships between 2000 and 2004, said: "It is my intention to continue and expand the outstanding work of President Mosley."

God help us

I believe that Vatanen is the only real option right now; Todt like Ron Dennis will have too much conflict of interest with his former Ferrari ties, whether those relations are good or bad. Vatanen has never had anything to do with F1 so will be as unbiased as possible. Todt will mean another four years of courtroom F1 in my opinion!

Getting him out after his term has finished will be nigh impossible. The only way he could be removed would be another revolt by the teams, bringing the sport into more disrepute. :irked:

From F1 Live:

Speaking to Spanish daily AS, FIA presidential candidate Ari Vatanen has hit back at Max Mosley's blessing of rival candidate Jean Todt.

"It is not right that Max wishes to impose a new leader, with the federation supporting his campaign," Vatanen said. "The FIA is not a kingdom, it is a republic in which leaders are elected democratically."

In a letter sent to FIA members on Wednesday, Mosley confirmed his retirement at the end of his mandate in October and strongly proposed former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt as the best man for the job. The following day Todt announced his candidacy and warmly thanked Mosley for his backing.

Vatanen explained that Todt represents more of the same while his programme highlights a 'transparent' and 'democratic' approach.

During the interview he claimed that Ferrari do not want the controversial Todt as President of the FIA as they fear for F1's credibility.

"But the same would be true if Ross Brawn or Flavio Briatore ran," the Finn remarked. "The President of the FIA must be neutral."

However, as a 1981 World Rally Champion, the former European Parliament member was asked if his own ties to the rally world should be considered in the same manner.

"I will not deny that I carry rallies in my heart, but that does not mean they will take priority," Vatanen responded.

He defined the FIA as the head of a large family counting a billion citizen drivers and thousands of athletes, a large family he wishes to lead.

"We have one mouth but two ears, and my intention is to listen to the whole world," Vatanen declared.

From F1 Live:

Carlos Gracia, Spain's FIA representative, says he has not decided whether to back the Presidential campaigns of Ari Vatanen or Jean Todt.

He told the Spanish newspaper Diario AS that Vatanen, believed to have the support of the Formula One teams, ‘had the courtesy to come to Spain to explain his ideas’.

"He recognises the importance of our country. I share 90 percent of his ideas," Gracia added.

As for Todt, Gracia said the Frenchman is a ‘good candidate’ but because he is Max Mosley's preferred successor "I worry about there being a period of continuity."

The Spaniard has already put on the record his fears about Todt's previous alliances with Ferrari and Peugeot.

After Vatanen elected to meet in person with Gracia, meanwhile, it is revealed that Todt instead "preferred to communicate via telephone."

He said he will not announce who he will support ‘until later’.

"It is true that until now we have supported Max Mosley, but once disconnected from his position we can take our decision freely," Gracia said.

He also raised the possibility that Monaco's Michel Boeri will be another ‘great candidate’ to be the next FIA President.

He does rightly so, just like the rest of us. And Todt also will only communicate by the phone were as Ari is taking the time to meet the Spaniard in person.

This should be an easy choice. Let's hope the people who vote see things this way.
