Piquet is probably expecting Bernie to help him by pulling Gordon Murray out of retirement, bringing in Parmalat and Olivetti sponsorship, re-build the Brabham team sole-ly around Piquet (just like his father), and hiring somebody rubbish like Francois Hainault to play the Irvine/Barrichello role.

And no cattle prods to interfere. :P

Piquet used to beat Hammy in lower sports.

No he didnt.
But he was closer than he is now.

Uh.

In GP2, he beat Hamilton on ten occasions, with Hamilton beating Piquet on eleven (and in the end, overall)...

Thankyou

then he needs to take a step back into a lower Formula and accept that's as good as he can achieve.

Step down, to hone his skills and get ready for F1 properley.

I believe if Piquet exits F1 then there will be no way back for him, if he can't make it in 2 1/2 years of F1 I doubt he ever will, but I believe that having second rate equipment hasn't helped matters for the Brazilian. We just have to look at the history; how many former F1 drivers have made it back into F1?

Some have but only when the money mattered a lot more than talent, particularly when Jan Lammers made a comeback for March in the last race of the 1992 season after 10 years away!

there are too many potentials for him to have a second chance

would you hire a chap who almost always gets trounced by his team mate in 2 seasons? or risk someone new? youd risk someone new! once hes out, thts it!

So what? Piquet might get closer to Alonso and even beat him with an updated car next weekend. It doesn't, however, make up for a season and a half's worth of failure, most of which he spent in the same equipment as Alonso.
#133855
No but it should give him a reprieve; has he had a lesser car for the whole 2 1/2 years? if so that's an unfair comparison to make between the two Renault drivers!
#133862
I think he has had equal equipment (though I suspect he isn't as friendly with the likes of Briatore) (though Renault fans may know more), and that what happened at the German Grand Prix was pretty similar to the McLaren situation, whereby there was only one set of new parts just rushed in, and the team (rightly) put them on Alonso's car.

Yeah it is the same case as Mclaren. It was a quick bolt-on job from the Renault boys.
If you recall the same happened in Bahrain when Renault rushed out a interim double diffuser. There was only one and obviously it was given to Alonso.

Piquet has had his chances, at the tail end of last season he had arguably the third fastest car in the field, but could not use it like Alonso did. I know he had a good solid drive in Japan and I thought he was very strong on that day, but he was no where near Alonso in Brazil or China.

I know it has been hard for him, and I realise the Renault environment isn't exactly as favourable towards him. But Piquet has been given alot of chances, and he is generally liked by the backroom staff. Even Flavio has sympathy for him and alot of that is based on what he shown he could do in lower formula. Why else would Renault give him a repreave for Hungary?

Piquet hasn't had it easy, up against arguably the best driver in the field. But who are we kidding? He was never signed to beat Alonso, if he did it would merely be a bonus. He was signed to shadow the guy and mature in a top team, ready to one day himself challenge for wins etc. He just hasn't done that. In terms of pure laptime he has never beens miles away from his team mate, but he's failed to do that lap after lap in a Grand Prix. Racing is far different from driving.

I don't know how Grojean or Di Grassi might do up against Alonso. I do, for Renault's sake and my own, hope that they actually build on the promise which they, like Piquet, show.

No, you said Piquet did not beat Hamilton in lower forms of motorsport, which was factually incorrect.

they only raced together in gp2 , hamilton got 5 wins , piquet got 4 then it was just a mix of podiums after that :)
