From F1 Live:

Heikki Kovalainen on Thursday admitted he is hoping to be retained by McLaren Mercedes for the 2010 season.

The Finn joined the Woking-based outfit last year as a replacement for Fernando Alonso, but his up and down performances have triggered speculation the team may be on the market for a new team-mate for Lewis Hamilton.

Kovalainen gave some insight into his contractual situation when speaking with reporters at the Nurburgring.

"McLaren has an option that runs out at the end of this month. At the moment my only goal is to stay with them and we will see what happens," he said.

Kovalainen said he has had some input into the basic plans for the 2010 car, but it is understood that only Pedro de la Rosa at present is deeply involved with development of the disappointing MP4-24's successor.

From F1 Live:

Timo Glock has rejected a rumour in the Nurburgring paddock that he is a contender for Heikki Kovalainen's McLaren seat next year.

Kovalainen revealed at the circuit that McLaren, whose engine partner Mercedes is openly keen to see a German at the wheel of its works car, has an option on his services for next year that runs out at the end of July.

"I'm happy here and I've got a contract for 2010 so it's nothing, just a rumour I guess,” the Toyota driver said.

Although Kovalainen has improved his performances slightly this season, I still think McLaren could employ somebody else who could do a better job. Glock is a solid performer, but I wouldn't like to see him at the team. A team like McLaren should be looking to fill its seats with the very best drivers (Alonso, Vettel, et al).

McLaren need a driver who can help develop a car well and who is also a top driver.

I think Kovvy tries to be Kimi too much, look t his Helmet designs and his characteristics, he follows in his foot steps too much. He needs to write his own F1 book.

He does get them he just doesn't get them first most of the time.

They've both been involved in testing different parts in the practice sessions, sometimes the drivers use them in the races and sometimes they dont and I'm sure any opinion the team has of the drivers performance will have the parts factored into it.

With a success story as big as McLaren you need to get to grisps asap.No excuses, hence why i believe Nico would suit more better than Heikki, look at Germany? He raced to a nice 4th. But he goes un-noticed! he's amazing. He needs that McLaren seat :cloud9:

I'm sorry but have you forgotten what happened last time Hamilton and Alonso were on the same team?

It's odd that at the time I really hated Alonso, now the two are on different teams I love them both. They're easily the two most talented drivers on the circuit in my opinion.
