From F1 Live:

Hot on the heels of similar rumours about Sebastien Bourdais, it is now rumoured in the Nurburgring paddock that Nelson Piquet's seat at Renault is in imminent danger.

As with the Bourdais rumour - dismissed with a terse 'no comment' by Toro Rosso chief Franz Tost on Friday - it is suggested that the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring this weekend could be Brazilian Piquet's last.

His replacement would most likely be Renault reserve Romain Grosjean, the French-Swiss GP2 driver, Auto Motor und Sport claims.

The report said that Piquet's contract allows the Enstone-based team to make a driver change based on his performance in the first half of the season compared with team-mate Fernando Alonso.

Flavio Briatore said "we don't know yet" when confronted with the rumours, while Piquet's famous eponymous father said he planned to speak with the team boss about the speculation.

Speculation regarding Piquet's future with Renault has been an ongoing subject for the last year. So far the Anglo-French team has stuck by the Brazilian racer.

As much as Piquet is on borrowed time I don't think bringing Grojean in so early would be such a good idea. Quite frankly i've found Grojean's latest performances in GP2 to be quite sub-standard. He seems quick over one lap, but I'm not sure if he can do it consistently. I also think this is down to him maybe not trying as hard. He appears to have backed off knowing he'll end up in the Renault anyway. To me that isn't a very good sign.

Renault should hold on to Piquet until the end of the season. Yes he may make a number of errors, but his last few races have been ordinary. Ordinary is good atm - it's better than his usual!

Besides Renault haven't got much to gain atm bar scrapping with Mclaren in the Constructors points.

If Piquet retains his seat, it'll probably be something his father has done to convince Flavio to keep him on. Or he'll have called Grosjean an "uneducated blockhead".

First he's got one race left, then he's got 3, then this is his last weekened.

Personally I'm not believing anything anymore. It's all rumours, and i'll take things as they come. If Renault decide to promote Grosjean, then great. But if not, I don't see Piquet improving. Personally I want to see Piquet switch to a smaller team, with less pressure. He does have the speed, but he'll never achieve his potenial in that Renault. Grosjean more than likely will, simply because Briatore knows Alonso won't stay forever, so Grosjean is his next wonderkid.

Hard to predict what is going to happen with Piquet this season. Not big news if he goes and its not big news if he stays.

He did alright today getting into Q3 but was way off the pace, he better be fuelled heavily because Alonso was looking very fast until the rain came. The renault is better than 10th with its new upgrades.

Great, he does something decent just at the right time to save his arse for a little while longer.

He just got lucky with tyre timings get rid of him! He will probably crash tomorrow if it rains!

Germany is obviously a very lucky country for Nelson. However, his lap in Q2 was still fairly impressive when you consider who else was fighting to get in to the top ten...

Exactly, certainly having watched the GP2 race, Grojean doesn't exactly fill me with hope. He needs to stop being complacent!

Grosjean probably reckons all he needs to do is sit around and wait for Piquet to crash again and walk into that Renault cockpit without having to lift a finger.
