I say why not. A team should at least give him a test drive, measure his speed. Experience and speed, there isn't anything more valuable for a new team. If Villeneuve can provide both, there is no reason why a team shouldn't hire him. True he wasn't quick, towards the end of his career. But really, he was never that quick after electronic aids, and grooved tyre's were brought in. So maybe now thing might be different. We just don't know.

Also, one thing. Prost won the WDC at the age of 38. Clearly age is not an issue. So again, if Villenueve can still drive fast, I see no reason not to hire him.

At the same time, even when he was quick in the Williams... he wasn't consistant.

Indeed, he made some shocking blunders that Damon wouldn't have made. Also some of his performances "embarrased" the FW19 that year, Hockenheim for instance he only qualified somewhere around 9th if memory serves me correctly...

My thoughts exactly. I mean he either winned or binned. And even then. He wouldn't have won in Hungary or Nurburgring or Silverstone if it hadn't been for mechanical failures or luckless competitors.

If there is a FOTA led split, then the FIA will be desperate to dig up whatever name drivers they can find. Who still drives in the GP Masters series or whatever they call it?

Totally agree, i think desperation will kick in
