I think this year is a bit too early to compare, but from weve seen so far this year Hamilton has had the uppe rhand on most occasions. But I think Alonso will come good in the end and show the rookie whos the double world champion.anyway thats my opinion...cheers :D

lewis is has been the better so far but kimi is the better than all of them put together!

But Kimi couldn't get past Lewis when he was right behind him! I'm not suddenly anti-Kimi, pro-Lewis, just saying what happened...

Kimmi Knows these cars cant overtake so he goes to sleep.

Massa managed to overtake his way to fourth place (was it?) from last in the BFP. Every time he overtook someone an almighty roar went up from the crowd. So, the Ferrari can overtake. Kimi had better wake himself up and get driving.

hard to truly compare FA and LH, but lets concider that LH is inhis rookie season and he has consistently been quicker than FA..

FA seems to think he's a complete driver, and as such there is surely very little future development potential.

LH is the first to admit that he has lots to learn... what does that tell you?

Didnt mean just the Ferrari I meant all the current F1 cars. They cant overtake a car of similar or even slightly slower speed. Yes Massa's was a great drive at Silerstone but on the whole it doesn't happen. He couldnt recover from his low quali when they forgot to refuel him. Even if faster cars who have qualied out of position gain places over the slower cars, they cant get past the Ferrari's or McLarens and often not the BMW's either.Kimmi gets bored with it, cant use his speed.

The stats in that link don't tell much, for example if a driver qualified first in every race and was never overtaken then he'd be at the bottom of the league, similarly any driver that qualifies near the front would have difficulty making much impact on the stats. IMO it mostly shows drivers that have qualified below their potential whether that's due to own mistake or car/mechanical problems.
The number of times overtaken stats are probably more telling than the number of passes made..

I posted the link in response to Cillit Bang's claim that:
"Lewis, not just because he's proven himself to be quicker than Alonso, but also because he's more willing to take risks, and is totally unafraid to overtake anybody at any point on any circuit."

It merely demonstrates that LH passed other drivers in exactly one race whereas FA did so in 5 races, ergo, that claim realistically can't be supported.

ALL the drivers are supposed to be unafraid to pass somebody. Who that is afraid to pass would ever be allowed to drive in a race?

Its not that they're afraid to pass, the cars loose pformance when they get close to another car so overtaking becomes impossible.

That word "slipstream" doesn't seem to be mentioned a lot in this season. It always used to be the driver coming up to pass needed the slipstream from the car in front to overtake smoothly. Now it seems to be more and more the "dirty air" from the car in front is preventing the car behind from overtaking. Am I missing something or has something technical happened to make the difference?

There is also the factor that some courses are difficult to pass on. I will say this for Alonso, he takes risks to get what he wants and shows a lot of courage in some of his manoeuvers. Lewis is a cleaner driver however and manages to keep the line.

Yes Massa's was a great drive at Silerstone but on the whole it doesn't happen.

Which is a shame for Massa! He seems to need more consistency. Kimi needs a bit of that Alonso fire in his icy Finnish blood maybe.

It's all from the ever increasing amounts of fins and wings all glued onto the cars these days in order to create more downforce. The FIA fortunately proposed for these things to be all "cleaned up" so the cars look silky smooth like they did before people started chucking bits on them. Gotta blame Tyrrell for starting that trend with their 1997 X-Wing Tyrrell.
