Yamaha refuses bidding war for Lorenzo

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/76747

By Jonathan Noble and Michele Lostia Monday, July 6th 2009, 13:54 GMT

Yamaha will not get involved in a bidding war with Honda over the services of Jorge Lorenzo for 2010, the Japanese manufacturer has said, amid heightened speculation over the future of the Spanish rider.

Rumours emerging in Laguna Sena suggested that Lorenzo is in talks with Honda about a switch to them for next year, even though he says that remaining at Yamaha is his priority.

Yamaha is aware of the situation, but its boss Masao Furusawa has made it clear that the company will not stretch itself financially to try and keep hold of Lorenzo.

"We are interested in Jorge," Furusawa told Gazzetta dello Sport. "We are in talks but we know about Honda's offer: if he wants to go with them, we won't be raising our stakes in order to retain him."

Lorenzo insisted over the weekend that there was no firm offer from Honda yet, although he did not deny that discussions had taken place.

"At the moment Yamaha is the first option: I'd like to stay here. We are talking," he explained. "There is no offer [from Honda], but I can't say whether some discussions are taking place. I can say that at the moment, with nothing signed, my manager and I are open to anything."

As i said 3 races ago, Lorenzo will cost a few bob. Rossi is getting paid i think $53 Mill. Lorenzo is on a hand full with only $5 Mill i believe? If he does come 2nd in the championship or even wins it i think they she should at-least get $25 Million and Rossi be demoted to only $30 million.... He's an awesome rider, i love Rossi in the fact of the "rider" but i do not lie the person beneath the helmet. I think they should re consider Rossi's wages, plus Rossi might be leaving :irked: So maybe Yamaha need to think before they open there mouth?

Rossi leading Whoa!

Not by allot, if he makes a major mistake like in previous races
Lorenzo will take the lead, this will be topsy turvy season, there will be no definite winner until the last race.... But with Jorge's injury i think 3rd place maybe the best bet for him, maybe second too if Pedrosa is having a bad race, in which i can expect again.... Stoner will not have a successful run for a while also... With the possibility of him actually having to sit out....So i think the championship is going to be between Jorge & Rossi.... If Jorge does do as good as he did last race i can expect and epic battle really.... As he risked it all and proves to be just as 'In-Human' s Rossi but also as daring an as fit.... So this will be a hard one.

Nicky Hayden is the man!! I cant believe he won the title in '06 with only 1 win. After watching the race on Sunday, Moto gp is the Sh!t!!! It completely owns F1 right now.

Totally agree Buddy Boy
I think F1's politics are ruining it, look at Moto Gp, i bet barely anyone on here knew that Honda was interested? because it's kept private! that's how i assume we all like it! Mint racing! Lush Bikes! Cool riders! just what we all want!!

Nicky has suffered since the switch to 800cc he knew how to tame the 1000cc bikes

I agree 100%, he won a WRC! You can't get any better than that? He beat Rossi? In which some of you on here revert to as a 'God' so.... He obviously is amazing and never lost what he had, he just had a hard time switching in which is understandable! i think as soon s he gets to grip with his 69* mean machine we will see him winning and dominating the circuit! It's just Stoner is an awesome rider! he always has been and always will be! Ducati know him very well, so the bike will be fine tuned perfectly to his liking

Rossi left Honda for the most part because of Pay issues,Honda is really stupid i have to say.look at what rossi has done.Since Rossi left Yamaha have dominated.Honda 1 st win at seca in over a year ,shameful. And lets not talk what happened in F1.
Lorenzo will get a pay hike but wont get more than Rossi. And i won't be supporting him if he goes to Honda thats for sure.
About Hayden,he was lucky [a little to much] to win the 2006 title.Rossi crashed in that last race and Pedrosa crashed Hayden in the penultimate race. and rarely won races. But he was the champion, but just not an impressive one.
Lorenzo is not yet ready,he isn't a complete rider.Laguna is the most difficult track on MotoGP,mostly because 125 and 250 don't race there, and the riders that are there don't have that much experience over there,Thats why Lorenzo crashed last year over there too.People coming from 250's find it difficult to adjust.Talmaschi went of as well.
I'll be surprised if Rossi doesn't win this season with all his competitors i'll,sick or injured.[not his fault though.]

Fully agree, i still believe though that Rossi won his first Moto Gp title (top form 500cc) on is second season, i still believe Lorenzo has a shot! But with Hayden? I think he's talented no doubt, but is lacking confidence within the team. Rossi did crash out, but as i said. Luck pays off in majority in all sports, & Rossi was not destined to win that race or title. I think if Lorenzo has this injury and is restricting him then Rossi might wrap this up, but with the performance Jorge showed us last race i still believe he is in the running
I think Next race will put the wedge in the championship. If Lorenzo wins and Rossi scores minor points, then it will be in the wire, if Rossi runs away with it then there will have to be some crashes on Rossi's side, for anyone to even bring a fight to the Italian.

He got pole and raced to 3rd with a broken collar bone i would say he did pretty well at Laguna given his circumstances!

Totally agree, he had to be assisted to the podium. So i think he is in the marjin for the title.

Dovizioso has impressed this season.

Not good enough for Honda. hence why Lorenzo is in the running for his seat

I have to disagree.
So you think if Honda had to decide they would choose Doviziozo over Lorenzo?

Dovizioso is by far the 4th best this season. But knowing how idiotic Honda is i won't be surprised if they get aggressive on Lorenzo. But i wonder how will Pedrosa and Lorenzo fit in the same team if that happens.
These 2 aren't like the best of buddies,ya sure they shook hands at laguna, but mainly they don't get along.
