I am near the point of going for my theory then my practical exam, as i have had nearly 10 lessons and feel allot more confident and am going to be doing maneuvers soon. (going holiday in Aug, so sept/oct time will be exam time for me)

i have a few cars in mind, but with the jobs i am going for. I should be able to afford a car in the 1k-3k mark.

I have a few cars in mind and was wondering if anyone had any opinions or have any technical reasons not to go for the cars i am looking at.

I am looking at
1.A 2000 plate (w Reg) Vauxhall Corsa B, minted out with top mods. 4k but could get down to 3, he has converted a 1.2 to a 2.0! in which he has shown can out run a Evo & Imprezza, it has top body kit and awesome mods inside.
I can also get dirt cheap insurance as it is still registered as a 1.2 also with the new engine it has only done 44k on clock

(i really want a fast car, even though it's my first. I have to get this right as this car will have to last me a long time as next year we are getting a new place with my misses. As atm i am crashing at my mums)

2. A minted V Reg Saxo, 3k with 80k on the clock. Minted inside and out and has special tuning and can be changed on the door step! it would make a nice cruiser and also looks nice and cosey also pacs a mint little 1.4 engine.

3. A New corsa 02 Plate (i think), mods added with a bad boy Mafia custom made bonnet! Bucket seats the lot and is newer than most. Would make a new cruiser and also looks nice and cosey shame about the small 1.2 engine. 2.8K

My insurance will be cheap as I'm hoping on my dads and my insurance and for a 1.8 Zetec focus would only cost 1.3K annually. So I'm told. But i do want a small cr as it's only going to be for a while then also weekends i wil be with my misses.

Opinions please?

How could my 27+yr's of driving and car ownership experience over you not be helpful? You asked for opinion's and I gave you my experienced opinion. It's your money but remember all those big future plans you have, buying a hotrod is not the most logical choice aswell you will be insured on your dads policy so that makes him liable if you wreck the car. I have had my OWN insurance policy since I was 16yr's old and paid for all of my cars myself.

I am paying for everything. Just with my age and also me being a male. In the UK our insurance is allot because there are allot of idiots on the road. So my insurance for small 1.2 car is 2,998 quid approximately $4,872.

That's allot. Plus with the cars i am looking at, unfortunately they have big engines. But wit what you have said, the 2.0 Litre car does not look like a practical car. Thank you for input!

jesus Insurance is a bitch for such a small car. before i was 25 insurance for my GTR was 4k a year, thats for a real fast car, but then i wasnt 18!

i agree with tex, if its your first car then id go for something cheap and reliable. and wait until youre atleast 21 before you get something with abit of grunt. you may think youre a good driver but thats what they all think even the ones who lose their lives driving stupidly!

Totally agree, the Saxo looks like the car i should go for bt then also the Corsa 1.2, i am learning in a 1.4 and my cousin and friends have had a Saxo before. So it's between them 2, which do u think is the best?

The Black 1.2 Corsa or the 1.4 Saxo?

Believe me you will love it!!

As i know allot about cars and can tune them myself with the help of my dad s he is a mechanic. & i understand Corsa's allot! So if i Got the 1.2 Corsa i could fine tune it in time, Bang on all the stuff i want etc. As i am a perfectionist and i would put allot of money into the car. with the Saxo it don't need tuning so i could just drive and enjoy. As it has pretty much everything. Thing is also, the interior for me count's as allot, the interior on the Saxo is ugly, on the Corsa it's lavly

One thing I would say: are you declaring all the mods on the cars to the insurance company? Odds are that you will have an accident in your first year (apparently, anyway) and they may not pay out if you haven't declared everything.

Are you set on a Corsa? How about something a bit different? I've heard (and I have absolutely no idea whether this is true or not!) that something like a Caterham or Lotus 7 can be put on classic car insurance so if you phone up the specialists you get dirt cheap insurance despite being a new driver & young. Might be worth looking at?

Insurance can be such a pain though. After I passed my test, I went out and bought my 'dream car'. Tried to insure it and only three insurers would insure me. The best quote I got was for over £20k In the end, I waited one month until I was 21 when my insurance dropped to £2k. Completely bonkers...!

Well i really do need a car and a Corsa or Saxo has always been my dream car, I want one that's modded, then in time when i get more cash flow i will have a project? in which i love my projects. I helped mod my Cousins old Corsa and in the end, it was old? He bought it for 700 quid and sold it to this specialist car mod site and got 2 and a half K back. I just want a car that's a little modded and then just do the rest myself.

No, the mods to me will be next to nothing. The body kits will be already put on, so i will have to bang in an expensive clifford alarm. The GT5 model. Matrix i think it is?

I'm very security conscious anyway. As i am going to bang it in my mums garage veery night. As for my job i can take public transport, but if I'm late or want an extra hour lay in? the car come handy.

Because my friends and I, as soon as we see somone driving cars like you posted pics of we think, "what a complete cockhead chav" (and worse), who coincentally are "idiots on the road".

Respected. But, my taste is fast. The cars i like i want to look mean, if i worried what everyone thought i'd be worried al my life.

The cars i like may look chavvy.... But then when they see the dude that steps out the car in 145 quid Police Jeans, 200 quid D&G watch, Armani T-Shirt and Some Lush little converse. I think they will change there opinion

That is the problem in the UK, many young drivers seem to think that putting a wide bodykit on a car makes it cool; in reality it may impress your modded car friends but it doesn't impress anyone else. I know that you don't want a Nova but at the end of the day 1.2 Nova is still a 1.2 Nova regardless of how many plastic bits you add on!

I have seen thousands of these type of cars being driven around recklessly eventually being wrapped around a lamp post... the Max Power generation.

Personally if I had just passed my test I would go for something small and inconspicuous, not something that screams pull me over officer!

But if you really want to buy a car like that; good luck to you!

Why do ya think I sold my Lexus SC300 with the 2JZGTE/T78 swap because every kid in his mom's Honda wanted to race me when they saw the big frontmount IC or heard my straight exhuast. It took serious restraint from me not to race them but I admit I left plenty of them with a stupid/priceless look on their face.

VB your just a typical 18yr old who want's to prove he has a fast car so go ahead and buy one and then talk to me in 10-20yr's, unless your dead, when you have actually matured enough to admit that we here were right with our opinion's.
