Are there really supposed to be different countries with their own governments? Are there supposed to be borders? We decided to draw them. Who says we're right? Earth didn't come with them. So some time ago, someone could walk from point A to point B 10 feet away, but now, there's an imaginary line between those points making him an illegal invader. Is this right to you? I know it gets extremely complicated, but the issue of the rights of illegal immigrants in the USA has brought up this in my mushy brain. On the one hand, there are the guys who say "This is MY country dammit! Let's build a wall and arm it to the teeth and get all those Mexicans out of here! I dunno, are they using this as an excuse for veiled racism?? then there's the other side, as outlined at the beginning of this post. Let's be hones, the LEGAL immigrants take jobs too, and any job that someone has means that's a job someone else doesn't have, and I am a native person without a job, so... I always try to see both sides. But that's a micro problem, I was talking about the bigger, philosophical concept of it all. It'd be nice to see lots of different opinions.

I can understand both sides of the argument but I would rather have us, mankind, live with no barrier's or imaginary boundary line's. People may ask why is that Gregg but my outlook is that we are all in this big mess together. My outlook may be alittle naive and uninformed yet that is how I feel at the moment.

Most animals, including humans, are territorial. As soon as the resources needed to sustain life became limited (or rather, the demand for them increased)... animals developped the ways to control them for their own survival. i think countries and borders are just the evolution from primitive territoriality to a more comprehensive territory/resources management.

Human races are the result of evolution, from a common neutral profile to a more 'specialized' type adapted to the territory and conditions they are subject to. Therefore, race WAS a way of identifying the territory of an individual... i say WAS because, humans now can move and interbreed faster than they can evolve/adapt to a given territory.

The only condition where wouldn't have the need for being territorial is when resources become unlimited... ie never.

Not bad. However, there are MANY non-territorial species, e.g., giraffes, bears. They simply made the determination that the cost of defending a territory is not offset by the gain of resources. Most if not all primates (i.e., including us) are territorial, so our territoriality seems to be rooted deeply and it would be hard for any species to overcome that. Humans with their mental capacity would or should be top on the list to be capable of doing so, but alas...

Well technically before Hadrians wall they were everywhere. what Hadrians wall did was create the English
