I actually remember now, the main reason I looked into getting an iPhone was for the apps.
I wanted to know if they do a RADAR app.
So it kind of scans an area, like a radar??
Anyone know?

yeah the apps are great, so many to choose from some good some wanky

The closest thing I've seen to this for phones is a sonic measuring tape.

There was a device for the gameboy that did some sort of sonar mapping to find fish when your fishing.

Same reason you're not allowed to use phones on planes, the phone'll probably interfere with the flying rats own navigation system.
