i'm going to place a bet on who will win the driver's championship and http://www.skybet.com have got these odds

Hamilton, L 6/5
Alonso, F 13/8
Raikkonen, K 5/1
Massa, F 11/2

my gut feeling is to go with raikkonen and at 5/1 i think thats a good bet but i'd like other opinions as well. What do u all think?

Raikkonen obviously has the talent and the car to win it, but he seems to be making lots of silly mistakes at the moment, which could cost him in the end.

Personally, I reckon Massa would be an excellent outside bet for the championship. He's won as many races as everyone else, but nobody seems to be noticing him and giving him enough credit for it.

Massa is the most improved driver over the last season or two. When Ferrari first signed him I was laughing my leg off thinking, "Ah, here we go, another tea-boy for Schumacher, just in because he's Todt's mate", however, he has come on leaps and bounds by listening to Schumacher for advice. He's not a great overtaker, however, when he's out on his own he's very tough to stop, as Raikkonen found out at the weekend.

Raikkonen is very talented, although makes is some mistakes, but his biggest problem is luck. He never seems to get any. McLaren couldn't give him the car consistently capable of winning championships, and when they did, it was unreliable, so he jumps over to Ferrari, thinking it to be his dream move, and a similar story happens, which is made worse by the fact McLaren have rediscovered their form! (for this year anyway...)

In my opinion Hamilton is the slight favourite, just ahead of Alonso, although the championship is by far from over. Much like Alonso over the last two seasons, it's a case of getting points up the board and not doing anything silly. Even if Ferrari won every race left, as long as he could keep getting podiums and a handful points each race, he should just get the title.

I agree, consequently I don't reckon it's worth a punt at 6/5. But that's just my 'umble opinion.

I think Lewis has won this year. Its all about consistency, and Lewis has got that in spades, so i think the ferraris will gain places, but just not enough in the end, with Lewis on top, massa 2nd, Kimi 3rd, and Alonso a dying 4th.

Lewis hopefully, will he be the first rookie to win a WDC?

I think so, providing you don't count the very first year of Formula 1 when they were all technically rookies 8)

But besides that I don't think anyone has ever done it before.

Lewis is quite simply in a class of his own. I reckon he can do it and I think there's still yet more to come from him before the season's out.

I think Lewis has it in the bag, but the next 2 races will be extremly telling. It'll be great to see him around Monza and Spa... and if he can stay incident free and get a win (especially in Ferraris back yard) that should give him the confidence to push on.

The Ferraris don't look strong enough to be honest. OK they don't have the in team problems as pronounced as McLaren, but with both drivers so close, they can't call one off, so still have the problem of Kimi and Massa taking points from each other.

Alonso needs to relax, and keep some toys in the pram for a change. I think his biggest strength in both his titles has been that he could rely on his consistancy in the final 5 or 6 races. This year is so different, and with his turbulent mindset he still has the ability to throw it all away and end up 15 -20 points behind the champion at seasons end.

Hamilton for champion- by 3 points from Massa I think.

I wouldnt right Raikkonen off yet. He's going to be mighty around the final few tracks, and especially Spa. Lewis is the most likely to win this season, he just needs to continue his form and have some good luck.

At 5-1 odds you have to have a stab at Kimi.

I think Hamilton might nick it and good for him! Alonso could take it if he can just calm down, pick up the pram and put the toys back in. I would love to see Massa come storming through. Put money on 'em? No. If I'd backed Schumacher to win that aborted GP in the US a few years ago, his car would have blown up! :( So...if I put money on Hamilton and Alonso, then a Ferrari, by my reasoning, should win :D
