i actually prefer Sepang out of Tilke's tracks on the basis that if you make a mistake at Turkey, nothing at all happens, you just end up in a car park. I hate that, mistakes should be punished. I can understand it at Fuji where it rains a lot, wet races on tracks with no runnoff just end up with hardly anyone finishing the race and it was good to see the drivers able to push at China earlier this year in the wet because the runoff was quite forgiving. At Turkey though, is it really likely to rain in the race!?

No chance of rain I'd say. But Turkey is my favourite Tilke track. I get your point about the runoff. I like that track though.

Well the argument for run-off areas, is that if a driver goes off, he can return to the track in most cases. Meaning that we get to see what they get up to later on. I mean when you think about, the more drivers on track, the more action there is likely to be.

tarmac runoff is also a lot safer in cars like F1 cars but i just think F1 drivers are allowed to get away with too much compared with previous years and it ruins the character of circuits because the scenery is too far away to create any sensation of speed

I, too, prefer Sepang from Tilke's portfolio, largely because it doesn't feel as generic or sterile as his other circuits. As you say, at Sepang, there is a greater penalty for making mistakes, and the track seems to follow the natural topography of the area. Perhaps with the additional exception of Turkey, Tilke's tracks feel as though they were designed with a ruler and set square.

I seems that Tilke will have a say in the final layout of the hypotetical Rome GP as well. It'll be a street circuit in a beautiful city, but I hope it won't be another processional circuit... Please, Tilke, please... :hehe:

And Sepang was also designed 11 years ago, before the annoying black and highlighter pen Green (not the Brawn shade) run off areas began popping up everywhere.

Turkey's a nice layout and gave us a good race last year which did not depend on the safety car, but it does feel a bit artificial around the edges of the track.

China is the worst Tilke track, in the dry it is almost as dull as Catalunya-wn but it is even worse to drive on. It has a horrible disjointed feeling with lots of very stupid and unimaginative corners, particularly the first corner.

I've found the definitive layout for the street circuit in Rome, after Tilke's re-design:

What do you think of it?

 I like Turkey too.
And i find it is punishing, but in a different way... It is more punishing on mistakes/handicaps on set up, and driving style/tyre management.

When i first saw the Valencia preview i thought it was going to be great... but the race and track were pretty dull. The opposite with Singapore, i thought the racing was going to be poor and boring, yet it ended up being the nicest street circuit race.

Conclusion: i suck at predictions and dont know crap about which track will give an exciting race. So, NO COMMENT on the Rome circuit. :D
#122807
:hehe: well yeah, the same goes for me! By the way I don't mean that I dislike Singapore, I mean that we already have plenty of street circuits :) What d'you think, we might as well rebrand this series Formula Tilke :D
#122819
I don't understand Bernie. He complains about boring and predictable races with no overtaking, and goes ahead and brings in 3 more street races

The rome circuit looks a bit dull and nothing special. But if it replaced Valencia for a year or two, I'd have no such problem.

i am not a great fan of Turkey, but I do like Sepang.
It sounds silly but I like to drive it on the F1 games.
Australia is my fave and Malaysia second, probably because I never got past 2 rounds when doing a championship!
