What kind of games do you want to play, irons?

strat games like dawn or war, comand and conquer 3. i really have no idea what im looking at

Just a heads up, i've had a nightmare trying to get C&C3 working on Vista... there is some 32/64 bit issue.

I thought everyone was exaggerating about Vista until i actually got stuck with it myself... :censored:

I think you'll find that's more an architectural issue than an actual operating system flaw, to be honest. Older games, particularly those which are 8- or 16-bit, struggle to cope and are not designed for the 64-bit architectures.

C&C 3 is still pretty new though, and it works on Vista 32bit, not 64 - i managed to get the original Windows 95 games working with less effort!

yeh i'd never get Vista full stop it won't have any issues with XP 64bit i expect.

64-bit XP is even more buggy than Vista, and Vista is pretty bad :hehe:

so what is there other than vista

XP, Linux, *BSD, Solaris are some examples.

If you don't want to use any legacy hardware and you get a decent amount of RAM, you should be alright with Vista 64 once you've got it tweaked, but it's not perfect. XP would probably be better for you, it's more stable (currently, at least, though Service Pack 2 has just been released for Vista and I have not tested that on the test box).

Windows has 64-bit issues relating to the Legacy of Win32. Linux, OS X, and others were and are able to wrap themselves up in happy new 64-bit cores. Windows has to provide legacy support to Win32 and its 64-bit nature suffers as a result.

you could ways just get 4gb and go with XP 32bit you can apply a few simple tweaks so it uses the full 4gb but not properly

It would be less buggy than 64bit and miles faster than vista.

Forget Linux etc.. they won't run any games.

Typical Windows user. :P

not really but there's no point in confusing him (no offence iron)

he's asked for a pc so lets just stick to mainstream PC OS's

Windows XP 32 or 64
Vista 32 of 64

or Windows 7 32/64

A question was asked and I answered it. As for the rest, go ahead, I'll not participate in what would otherwise ensue. :)

:hehe:

It's not that, I just genuinely disagree with your comment in regards to games and Linux. I play plenty of mainstream games on my computer :)

But I do agree that it is likely not what irons is looking for, I was just answering the question that was asked.
