Take a look on Dell computers, they have cheap and nice PCs

GOD NO

dells are rip off merchants you get a slower system and pay more for it, if you want a pre-built machine get a HP.

i can do you a spec iron and a supplier who can build it for you, and help you compare it if you like, let me know

a prebuilt will be more expensive but it may come with a longer warrenty but a custom build will be alot better value for money

just do not buy a dell.

Pfft, i got a Dell earlier this year, £450 for a pretty decent spec and a huge 23 inch HD monitor... i'm very happy with it. :)

i've ordered over 100 HP laptop's and Desktops in 2 years and we've had very little problems with my company.

However, i tend to end up fixing alot of personal Dell systems especially laptops with overheating issues and motherboard failures.

IBM's are rubbish too.

you should be able to get a very good system for your budget, would you like me to do you a spec?

Mac Book Pro

Yup, and it runs Windows natively faster than the Dells or HPs :P

for a start he said he wanted a PC not a children's toy.

and I'm afraid your statement is incorrect.

for example, just looked a few benchmarks, a Windows native laptop within the same price band as a mac book pro is far faster when used for gaming.

The only use mac's have is for people who sit in coffee shops wanting to look stylish or for people in graphics or video.

Futhermore there a total rip off. $2799 for a laptop.

Read this and weep (this is the conclusion and results page - go back to page one to see the prices of the machines that were compared): note the statement about running Vista natively on the Mac!

Thats vista, vista is crap.

the fact of the matter is if you want to play games on a Mac you will pay double the price of his budget, then additional £80 for a licence for windows.

Well obviously no-one should be using Vista. For gaming, the spec you can get on a PC for half the price of a Mac should be enough to swing it away from the Apple product. The Mac - PC debate is obviously not going to be sorted out on this thread but for gaming, I'd have thought bang-for-buck was an important consideration and Macs are never going to come out better there. Honestly, the success of Apple really does show that people have far too much money they don't know what to do with.
