BMW to announce something on the same sort of lines as Ferrari and Renault tomorrow? I think so.

As if it's actually a question. Do you not find it odd that it's been happening one day after the other, and not a couple one day and then one a couple days later? It's all orchestrated. A dog and pony show.

Yeah I know I think I made a post the other day about how the teams would one by one speak out. It's all a master plan by Luca and FOTA.

If there is a very rich fan out there, they can buy Formula One off CVC. :hehe:

I don't think Bernie is as bad as Max Mosely. Max needs to be sacked. He needs to be pressured to leave.

While I don't really like the idea of a break away series, I do support the fact that the teams are standing up for what is right.

Let's vote for Gregg to be the new FIA President. Anyone with me? :hehe:

The teams should just come forward and say it, Max has got to go, the same way he run Ron Dennis out of F1.

I just looked at the organisational structure and have only now realised how difficult it is to get rid of Max. I always thought that Bernie was able to get rid of him. But Bernie is a CEO of Administration. Big Whoop.

I'm thinking of signing a petition, but hey, petitions to the FIA haven't worked in the past. The General Assembly can't even get rid of him.

I was hoping that it would be like a normal company. In my company we have a CEO based in Hong Kong. He has a board that can get rid of him, despite him being the head of the company. Is there something like that in the FIA.

Bernie's done a lot for the sport. But he is just an outspoken old man. He would change if Max was gone. :)

The Federation is not a business. It's a kind of consortium, allegedly representing the collective views of a number of smaller organisations. Its structure is patterned after a Federal Government (Hence, Federation), but there is no oversight to the democracy - hence, rampant corruption.

The only way to remove Mosley is to weaken him. Force a new candidate into the running, and quietly erode Mosley's support base. Let him think he'll win in October by doing only the exact amount necessary to replace him.

Does that strategy sound familiar?

They could go to LMS or something. Personally, that would be my dream, to see all the teams abandon single seater racing and go to LMS, making it the most prestigious race series in the world! I've always thought that endurance racing is the REAL racing and I'd like to see it become more popular and more widely broadcast.

It will be very interesting to see who blinks first here. I think it's incredibly naive to assume the manufacturers are bluffing. Surely they are throwing down the gauntlet to set the stage for bargaining, but there are an awful lot of reasons for both sides to stick to their guns, resulting in an IRL/CART (American open-wheel) situation.

Why a constructor break-away makes sense:
[*]Constructors are at the mercy of a MM & BE system.
[*]Bernie's tactics have eliminated F1 racing from North America and FOM takes a substantial (disproportionate?) cut from F1 events.
[*]Bernie decides what's "best" for F1 based on what makes him wealthier (e.g. twilight/night racing so European viewers don't have their schedules disrupted) vs. what actually makes for better racing for the teams or the drivers (um, Malaysia? WTF?).
[*]A race series with Ferrari instantly has credibility and viewership.
[*]I've ready that no less than half of the F1 merchandising sales are Ferrari-badged goods.
[*]FOTA needs to present a unified front and hold firm on this issue or they'll lose any credibility for future negotiations.
[*]Existing fan base who will follow established teams & drivers to a similar series, potentially at the fan-favorite venues F1 current visits and ones Bernie has excluded (Indy, Canada, etc.)

Why BE & MM can't back down on the 2-tier model:
[*]They're stubborn old coots. Backing down validates FOTA (recall the results when several teams threatened not to race in Australia over a disagreement about 2008 monies owed to them).
[*]The sport is too costly and the learning curve too steep to attract new teams. They need low budget caps to attract new teams.
[*]Budget caps are clearly attracting new teams.
[*]There will be teams to fill the void left behind by the manufacturers. The grid will be full(ish) and there will be a F1 series.
[*]The current economy would likely result in stagnation of net-growth of the grid in 2010 and beyond.

Open questions:
[*]Does BE/MM have exclusivity/non-compete clauses for F1 tracks (i.e. could both series race the same tracks?)
[*]Who would televise a bastardized, Ferrari-less F1? Who could televise the "new" series?
[*]What current operating agreements have non-compete clauses (e.g. Bridgestone)?
[*]Can FOTA manage a series better than BE/MM?

Personally, I think the two-tier series could produce interesting racing. I'd look at it like the LMP1 & LMP2 classes of ALMS where there's one 'race event' but two separate classes of cars racing.

This sums it up nicely for me

Even Piero Ferrari, says his father did a similar thing. I remember someone mentioning Enzo turning in his grave. In my opinion Enzo would be doing exactly the same thing right now.

Anyways, more politics. Just what F1 doesn't need. The only thing I'm interested in right now is the total absence of BMW. But it's clear that the rules will need to be changed. No team agree's with them. So they'll be changed soon enough and that'll be an end of it. Of course the teams won't leave, very simply because neither the FIA or Bernie would risk a grid without half the field.

It all comes down to business. The people i mainly feel sorry for is BBC? they thought having F1 would be breakthrough? Ha! next season it could be a 4 man team on the whole circuit? i think F1 is based on the loyal traditions. But to be honest i think we will lose them through trying to act on the climate change and the way the economic system is ever changing. But if Ferrari leave? and the rest want to be sheep's? :sheep: let them. We could have better teams? more competition and allot more bright and colourful characters. This will also make it allot easier for young or old new drivers to come into the sport. As funding will not be needed. It will all be paid drives in which will come handy, except for the likes of Williams who always need to be paid. Kimi Raikkonen - if Ferrari leave, he will not come back? he is set for life with his annual salary? Unfortunately for Massa he will have to keep racing, with the new role he has, as a new Father to be  . If Kimi does want to keep racing and be earning a nice bundle. He will do what every X F1 pro does and go Nas-car were you get paid $450,000 just to race round and come last. The sport is falling apart. But it will make it not as hard to get in any more. & if Bud said to me I'm going to try to go to F1, i would go, go on then? it ain't that hard any more  . We have to take the good, with the bad.

P.S- A Return For Honda Racing?
