F1live:
The Brawn team will not receive the commercial revenue owed to a competitor named Honda in 2009, Bernie Ecclestone has confirmed.

Amid Flavio Briatore's recent rant about Ross Brawn and the Brackley-based team, the Renault boss - also in charge of FOTA's commercial arm - said he will be proposing to the F1 teams alliance that millions in Honda prize money not be released to its new guise.

The Independent newspaper claims that the funds in dispute amount to 20m pounds sterling.

New teams are usually not immediately eligible for F1 commercial revenue, but before the Brawn buyout was finalised, it was reported that the current teams were happy that Honda's new owners could receive the 2009 income.

Subsequently, however, the FIA ruled that Brawn was in fact not simply Honda's renamed guise, but an entirely new entry.

To the Independent, Ecclestone reportedly revealed that the Honda money "will not be paid to Brawn" and actually might not "be paid out at all."

"We can keep it," said the F1 chief executive, referring to a scenario where the other teams do not unanimously agree what to do with the disputed money.

In the same interview, 78-year-old Ecclestone revealed that he opposed the application to change Honda's official team name to Brawn GP.

The Briton said it is "not a good name, doesn't mean anything to the public."

Note to BE:
I just wonder what you will do with all your money when you kick the bucket? You can't take it with you and you'll be a pauper as anybody else at that point

And: 'not a good name'? It's getting better and better and means more and more to the public by the race, you fool! The one with the bad name here is you Bernie!

Is this his revenge for not being allowed to take a major stake in the team?

Given that the team has the same facilities, personnel, drivers, and management structure, I don't see how it can be classified as a new team.

I believe the finances of Bernie have taken a huge hit during this recession. The talk of a 30M and 40M pound cap, not paying Brawn monies owed to Honda, paying teams only half amount for not signing concorde agreement. It appears Bernie is over-extended financially and now is time for FOTA to stop being dictated to by MM and FIA.

Hes such a power hungry, money grubbing bottom that it makes me sick. There was a point where Bernie cared about F1 and made it a great sport, but those days are long gone. These days all Bernie cares about is how much money he can make. Thats why he goes to asia and the arab states. He doesn't think, lets expand and make F1 more gobal. He's thinking Arabs=Oil=Money.

Lets be honest, this is a pretty accurate depiction of Bernie right now

Murray Walker was actually defending Bernie a few days ago, saying that hes made the sport what it is and can't imagine F1 without Bernie, and when he asked Bernie "What we will do without you" Bernie replied "I don't plan on ever leaving" First time I've ever had to disagree with the great Murray Walker and gawd help us now.

Because Honda actually withdrew from the 2009 season, meaning that Brawn GP's application had to be treated as a new entry. However, I don't consider it a new team and to be fair, Bernie owes Brawn big-time for actually bringing the team to the grid for this season!

Indeed, it's a very weak argument.

I'm not sure what the hell he's on about with the naming. They simply couldn't call a team belonging to someone else and with a Mercedes Engine "Honda". Besides which, it took all of 1 race for the name "Brawn" to become affixed to motor racing in the non-fan's mind and even if it didn't, why does a new name have to be a bad thing? Ferrari was at one time a enw name for a racing team. Likewise McLaren and Williams. And yet those are some of the biggest names in the sport.

Bernie is a complete twit, Ross Brawn has been a big deal in F1 for a long time. A Brawn-named team is entirely fitting.

Bernie is being a greedy again! This is crazy considering he is saying that he will help pay the new teams next year if they come into the sport!

I believe most of his losses are due to his divorce and not the economical climate.

Words cannot describe what a greedy pig Bernie is becoming more of every day. Let's give him the Swine flu, that's probably the best way to do it.

And the "bad name" part just really rubs it in... what a w***er.

What an arsehole. This has got nothing to do with Brawn, but how much money he can make, hence his whingeing about Honda's name and not coughing up their share of the money to the rest of the teams.
