It will produce less downforce and produce less turbulent air behind the car, hence helping close racing.
I've always suspected that under current rules the F1 teams try and produce a max turbulent air zone behind their cars, to hamper overtaking.
It'll be interesting to see what happens. Guess it could be the time for radical new designs. However the combination of the split wing and v8's might does seem to dumb down F1 a lot.
