I quite like Leggard, he's still getting to grips with F1 but I like his lack of bias towards any particular driver. He doesn't get over the top like James Allen or try and even immitate Murray Walker. He's makes a very good change from James Allen, and hopefully he'll get better.

Gascoigne should be taken on permanently, a whole lot of viewers who don't know much about the mechanics of F1 can learn a lot from Gascoigne. His small feature on Brawn, Williams and Toyota's diffusers was simple but very effective.

His lines weren't perfectly horizontal, though. That irritated me :P

Legard can only get better, and lets face it, The BBC won't make any change to its line up. All we can hope is they take Gazza on anyways.

Battle of the pundits
Gascoyne wants to oust Jordan from BBC
22/04/09 10:09
http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/n ... 0934.shtml

Mike Gascoyne is eyeing a regular role as an expert pundit for Britain's television coverage of Formula One.

The former Renault, Toyota and Force India technical boss, ousted by the latter team at the end of 2008, substituted in Shanghai for BBC regular Eddie Jordan.

Former team owner and boss Jordan will be back in the role this weekend in Bahrain, but Gascoyne was a hit with both producers and viewers as he sparred with fellow pundit David Coulthard in China.

The Daily Mail quotes Gascoyne, formerly perhaps the highest paid engineer in Formula One, as revealing that feedback from his one-off appearance was ‘brilliant’.

The newspaper said Gascoyne, who is also keen to get back into the sport as an engineer, now wants to replace Jordan permanently.

"(He) is making no secret of his ambition to usurp EJ, who will be back for the Bahrain GP," the Daily Mail claimed.

Gascoyne worked for Jordan between 1998 and 2000, before departing for the Benetton/Renault team.

Given that his intentions in working as an engineer in the future mainly relate to consultancy work, this makes sense. Let's hope he gets the job!

Martin Brundle Quotes from Bahrain:

“[He] went [into the corner] still very much on the brake pedal and the tyres said, ‘Look, mate, do you want me to turn or d’you want me to slow down, ‘cause I can’t do both for you?’”

“Somehow or other, as always, Alonso finding something that doesn’t appear to exist. He doesn’t give up, that boy, does he?”

(After DC and EJ have been arguing about who’ll take pole)
“Top twelve shootout today – it’s Coulthard versus Jordan, with Coulthard on pole at the moment.”

“We’ve gotta ask Bernie about that ridiculous jacket, haven’t we, if we get half a chance. I don’t know if I can doorstep him for the 37th time this weekend. But you know what? I’m too embarrassed for him.”

“I’ve gotta get some pink shirts. We’ve got Jake and Coulthard and Daddy Button, and everybody’s in pink shirts!”
Jonathan: “Tempted?”
Martin: “Not yet.”

“I’m watching Kovalainen going down there looking at the number of buttons on his steering wheel. I’m just waiting for the time we have the first big shunt where a driver is looking at his steering wheel instead of where he’s actually going. It’s a bit like changing your CD and [being] on the ... none of which you should do, of course! ... on the mobile phone and all the other things all at the same time while you’re doing a hundred and eighty-five. Not to be recommended.”

(Jonathan can’t tell which tyres went onto Massa’s car)
“Doesn’t really matter, does it, unfortunately, as long as they’re black and round and keep the rims off the ground. Not gonna get him any points.”

“No-one’s allowed near the drivers so they don’t start slipping spanners in their pockets or balls of lead to pick up the weight like they used to in the good old/bad old days ...”
Jonathan: “I was just going to say – are you giving some trade secrets away?!”
Martin: “... pushing the cars into Parc Fermé and rolling balls of lead down the exhaust pipe. They’ve stopped all that now, all that skulduggery!”

Brundlisms FTW.

The tyres remark was my favourite this weekend, and overall it's still "understeering like a cross-channel ferry". Though "ambition getting the better of adhesion" remains pretty damn popular with me.

I also liked him calling Rubens "a good boy"...Oldest man on the grid :D

Eddie Jordan needs to go, nawoh. He talks pure and utter bull.

These are some lines I remember from him this weekend.
Lewis drove like a champion at china

NO, he did not. Lewis himself admitted it was a poor race. He finished behind his team mate. When was it a champion drive.

He's only won in the wet. Vettel has something to prove this weekend

 Since when? Did Vettel did not drive brilliantly in the majority of races in 2007. Germany, Valencia? Did he not hold 2nd in inch perfect drive in Oz till he was crushed by Kubica.

I can see BMW winning the championship this year

:hehe: speaks for itself.

EJ also has a tendency to waffle on about what seems like nothing. He'll be asked something, and you'll regret you ever asked.

Personally I want Mike Gascoynce back quickly. The guy was genuinely interesting to listen to. He had a real insight into the sport, and explained everything in enough detail that made it interesting but not so much you'd get bored. The majority of things he said I actually turned around and thought "ahh, interesting"

Also, the wardrobe woman (or man) needs to go. Pink shirts are a man crime. Identical clothes, and pink shirts for DC and Jake Humphrey.
Also, speaking of Jake Humphrey, he's doing a pretty good job. Not sure if was an F1 fan before, which is a good thing. He doesn't come across badly at all, he comes across as some quite genuinely interested in the sport. Props to him.

He was, apparently. Or at least, a big enough petrolhead that he already had a passing interest in F1.

He's quite into machines in general, he's into planes and stuff so he probably had at least a passing interest in F1 from a technological point of view if not anything else

Taken from the Sun.
TELLY motor racing pundit David Coulthard admits he’s loving his new job — because it means he can argue with co-star Eddie Jordan.

The former Formula 1 ace’s spats with ex-team owner Jordan have been a highlight of the revamped coverage of the sport on BBC since it moved from ITV in March.

And Coulthard, 38, insisted the war of words with his Irish co-presenter was set to continue.

David said: “I get along fine with Eddie, I just think half of what he says is b******t.

“I am not going to sit there and nod my head if I disagree.

“Obviously I am going to tell him that I have a different view.

“I respect other people’s right to an opinion, but if I think his view is wrong and I can prove that it is wrong, I will correct him.

“We don’t always have to agree.” Coulthard was at Silverstone last weekend for the British Grand Prix, a race he won twice in his own F1 career.

The 13-time Grand Prix winner — who grew up in tiny Twynholm, Kirkcudbrightshire but is now based in glitzy Monaco — added: “I feel I have a responsibility to play my part in making the coverage as good as it can be.

“I am a fan and the sport has been very good to me. I just hope we can reflect the good parts through the coverage.”

I agree totally - apart from the fact that I think 99.9% of what EJ says is b******t...

When EJ launches his new Jeremy Kyle style chat-show, do you think Coulthard will be his first guest? :P

The BBC were correct to sign Jordan, as his CV isn't bad. He built up a credible Formula One team from the lower formulae. However, he doesn't really talk about this, instead trying to compete with Coulthard about driving knowledge, which makes him look a complete idiot. Moreover, Jordan's "jokes" are truly cringeworthy.
