So I'm a newbie when it comes down to the facts of F1, I really love the sport but started watching it last year.
The question is, that is it true that before Spain there's a testing period for all teams when improve their car.

Also I ask you experts, do you think McLaren can find a balance for their car, so they could be conteding for championship after next 2 races?

Not a native english speaker, so apologise for my mistakes if there are some :)

In-season testing is banned this year.

But we are expecting most teams to have upgrades to their cars for Spain - the first European GP - that they have developed in their factories - i.e. without being tested on a track.

are there 2 spains on the calendar this season?

Yep - Round 11 is in Valencia, although it's called the 'European GP'.

I don't think it's likely that McLaren will be fighting for the championship this year. They may be able to develop the car further, but so can the other teams. When you consider that Red Bull are using neither the DD diffuser or KERS, whilst McLaren have an interim diffuser and KERS. Yet Red Bull are still far ahead, it seems McLaren don't stand a chance in hell of catching a team like that.

Really, the the championship this year is down whether or not Red Bull or Toyota can match Brawn.

Is it going to be called the European GP this year, doesn't Nurburgring have that name?

Nah, that's the German round - no Hockenheim this season.

Yeah, it confirms this on the F1 website.
There was a problem with the 2 rounds before, that's why I asked.
Hockenheim has exclusive rights to "The German Grand Prix" that's why the 2007 German round at Nurburgring was ran under the "European GP" banner.

I doubt they will be contending for the championship within the next 2 races, they might by the latter half of the season be able to win a race but the championship would be out of reach by then.
